Summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Freightliner M2 vehicles. The brake drum may contact the hub assembly, causing the brake drum to crack.
Remedy
All vehicles have been remedied, therefore no owner notification letters are necessary. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-920.

Chronology :
On August 31, 2021 DTNA received a field report for a cracked brake drum on 3 vehicles. Further investigation indicated the reported cracked drums were incompatible with the specs of its wheel hub. In September, 2021 DTNA opened an investigation to determine the suspect population that was affected. DTNA continued to analyze warranty claims and manufacturing data until February 23, 2022, at which time DTNA determined a population suspected of having incompatible drum/hubs. At that time, DTNA promptly decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall.

Production Dates : NOV 02, 2019 – JUN 24, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : On certain Freightliner M2s equipped with certain brake drum and hub combination, the brake drum may interfere with the hub assembly possibly resulting in a cracked drum, which in turn may compromise the vehicles braking capabilities. Further investigation indicated the reported cracked drums were incompatible with the specs of its wheel hub. In September, 2021 DTNA opened an investigation to determine the suspect population that was affected. DTNA continued to analyze warranty claims and manufacturing data until February 23, 2022, at which time DTNA determined a population suspected of having incompatible drum/hubs. At that time, DTNA promptly decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Dealers will inspect vehicle drum/hubs and replace brake drums as necessary, free of charge. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Truck North America authorized service facilities. Details of the reimbursement plan will be included in the owner’s notification letter.
