SAFETY ADVISORY # 22-424
Sunset GFCI Wiring
Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population have a circuit that is not properly protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). The outside receptacle is not properly protected by a GFCI and is not installed according to code under NFPA 70, which could lead to an increased risk of personal injury.
Models Included: | 2022 Sunset Travel Trailers: 330SI |
Serial Number Range: | N5351450 – N5352159 |
Parts Required: | 2 – KRV # 107256 – Recept – Blank – Junction – SC014-S3 – P & S (This part may be ordered in bulk without a VIN) |
Tools Required: | – Screw gun – wire strippers/cutters – pliers – flat screw driver |
Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.
When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.
There are two production scenarios. The remedy is to switch the two 12/2 NMS cable (aka Romex wires) under the bathroom vanity by adding two inline junction boxes and testing for proper operation of the fireplace and inverter circuit in the living room slide out. If fireplace and inverter circuit are not function properly, proceed with the second scenario by switching the amp connector for the fireplace with amp connector for the inverter in the slide-out.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels. Disconnect 120VAC and 12VDC power.
Step 2
Under the bathroom vanity, remove the access panel and locate the two 12/2 wires, see Figure 1.
Step 3
Make a mark with a permanent marker on one of the wires. Cut both wires and pull in excess from the floor or wall.
Step 4
Using the 2 junction boxes, KRV # 107256 – Recept – Blank – Junction – SC014-S3 – P & S, switch the circuits so that one box has a 12/2 Romex with a line and one without. Repeat for the second junction box, see Figure 2.
Step 5
Once the connections have been made, secure the junction boxes and turn on 120VAC power. Test fireplace and inverter circuits. If everything tests proper, reinstall access panel and continue to warranty reimbursement.
Step 6
If the fireplace and TV/recepts are reversed in the slide room, disconnect 120VAC power. Remove the fireplace to access the 120VAC amp connectors for the slide room.
Step 7
Disconnect both amp connectors and switch the circuits. Connect 120VAC power and test circuit function for the fireplace and TV/recept in slide room, and the GFCI receptacles.
