Summary
Reading Truck Equipment, LLC (Reading) is recalling certain 2021-2024 dump body trucks. Inadequate clearance may allow the hood to contact the main electrical fuse terminal.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and relocate fuse terminal and fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 29, 2024. Owners may contact Reading customer service at 1-800-458-2226.

Ford Super Duty Under-hood Electrical Component Relocation
Purpose:
- Relocate electrical components installed in low clearance zones, as identified by Ford Service Bulletin Q-277.

Chronology :
Reading Truck Equipment was made aware of a warranty claim due to a thermal event of a dump body installed on a Ford medium duty truck chassis on 03/12/2024.
Reading inspected the truck on 03/20/2024 and established that the root cause for the thermal event was due to the dump body primary fuse not installed to provide sufficient hood underside clearance.
Reading Truck Equipment decided to declare a recall related to this due to the safety risk on 03/21/2024

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE
TO: All Reading Truck Dealers
Reading Truck Equipment has decided that a safety defect exists in certain dump body trucks built
f rom 2021 th ru 2024. Accord ingly, a recall to address this issue is being init iated effective
3/ 25/ 2024.
Reading Truck Equipment has found that the primary dump body fuse may have been installed
incorrectly and may not provide sufficient clearance to the underside of the vehicle hood. This may
resu lt in electrical arcing, increasing the risk of a fire, crash and/ or injury.
Owners will be notified by mail about the reca ll and will be instructed to make an appointment to have
their vehicle(s) inspected and the fuse terminal and fuse relocated at a Reading Truck Equipment or
Reading Truck Equipment authorized service location.
There is no cost to owners for th is recall.
Please follow the “Ford Super Duty Under-hood Electrical Component Relocation Instructions” below
and complete a warranty claim for reimbursement of parts and labor.
Please be reminded that it is a violation of Federal law for you to sell or lease the trucks as per VIN
listing below, until th is reca ll has been performed on these trucks. Substant ial civil penalties apply to
violations of this law.

Ford Super Duty Under-hood Electrical Component Relocation Instructions
Purpose:
• Relocate electrical components installed in low clearance zones, as identified by Ford Service
Bulletin Q-277.
General Information:
• Please reference Ford Service Bulletin Q-277 located at: https://fordbbas.com/bulletins
• Configuration 1 – RTE-09542 Relocation bracket required.
o Ford Super Duty gas engine, single or dual battery.
o Ford Super Duty diesel engine, with components located in the low clearance zone,
passenger side.
• Configuration 2 – CTE-5511 Relocation bracket required.
o Ford Super Duty diesel engine, with components located in the low clearance zone,
driver side.
Repair Procedure:
Tools:
• General socket set and wrenches.
• Drill and drill bits.
• Wire strippers/cutters.
• Wire crimpers.
Supplies:
• RTE-09542 or CTE-5511 mounting bracket, as required.
• Electrical tape, convoluted loom, wire ends, and wire as necessary.
• For Configuration 2 only:
o (2) ¼-20 X 1” hex head bolts
o (2) ¼” flat washers
o (2) ¼-20 nuts
1. Park vehicle on a level surface and turn off engine.
2. Disconnect batteries.
3. Identify components in low clearance zones, per Ford Bulletin Q-277. For chassis identified in
Configuration 1, continue to step 4. For chassis identified in Configuration 2, skip to step 5.
4. For Configuration 1 relocation:
a. Disconnect any wires and remove mounting hardware from the original electrical
component installation.
b. Install supplied mounting bracket, part number RTE-09542, on the battery hold down
post, closest to the firewall. See Figure 1 and 2 below for reference. If components are
mounted on the driver side battery, it is acceptable to use the supplied bracket on the
driver side battery hold down post in this configuration, see Figure 3 for reference.
c. Install component onto the newly added mounting bracket.
d. Re-connect wires

5. For Configuration 2 relocation:
a. Disconnect any wires and remove mounting hardware from the original electrical
component installation.
b. Pre-mount the fuse holder to the supplied mounting bracket, P/ N CTE-5511 (Figure 4).
c. Hold the bracket in place on the fire wall f lange, rough ly 1″ f rom the inside of the
fender. Make sure there is a minimum of 3/ 8″ clearance around the fuse holder.
d. Mark the two mounting holes and drill with 9/ 32″ drill bit.
e. Install the bracket/fuse holder assembly onto the firewall using supplied ¼-20
hardware. See Figu re 5 for reference.
f. Re-connect wires.

6. Once complete, take pictures of the relocated bracket with fuse holder, fuse, and terminated
wiring.

recall, but to accelarate the process, Reading Truck Equipment will also contact the affected customers/owners via e-mail and telephone calls. The 48 affected customers/owners will be requested to bring the affected vehicle to a Reading Truck Equipment Service location, for inspection and repair. The inspection and repair will be performed at no charge to the customer/owner and will take 2 hours. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The fuse and terminal will be re-located to provide sufficient clearance per the Ford Service Bullein Q-277
