UPDATE
Safety Recall NHTSA No. 24T-001
April 8, 2024
Dear Valued TWG Dealers and Distributors,
We appreciate your partnership with TWG and AMP Tires.
This letter updates you on the recall population of affected tires and provides a status update of our recall process.
What is the condition? The affected tires do not fully meet the snow tire label requirements of FMVSS 139. The alpine, or snow tire label, is a voluntary label that may only be applied to tires that satisfy ASTM F1805 Testing of these tires found that they do not fully meet the requirements of ASTM F1805. If these tires are operated in snow conditions similar to ASTM F1805, they may not provide sufficient traction increasing the risk of a crash.
Affected tires:
As previously communicated, all sizes of AMP Terrain Pro A/T, AMP Terrain Attack A/T, and AMP Terrain Attack R/T tires are affected.
In addition to the original tire population identified in this recall, we are adding the Mud Terrain tires outlined below as they may have the alpine symbol mark on them and do not meet the ASTMF1805 standard.
Items | DOT Range |
All sizes of AMP Mud Terrain Tires | All production prior to 0120 |
PN 325-5022AMP/CM2 | 0224 to 0724 |
If these tires do not have the alpine symbol mark, they are not included in the recall.
What are we asking you to do? We are asking you to immediately cease sales of all sizes of AMP Terrain Pro A/T, AMP Terrain Attack A/T, and AMP Terrain Attack R/T tires and the Mud Terrain tires above that have the alpine symbol.
IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW FOR A DEALER OR DISTRIBUTOR TO DELIVER A NEW OR USED TIRE COVERED BY THIS NOTIFICATION UNDER SALE OR LEASE UNTIL THE NONCOMPLIANCE IS REMEDIED.
What we will do for owners of these recalled tires: TWG is developing a remedy for the recalled tires. When the remedy is available, we will notify both you and the owners.
The Wheel Group is committed to work with you to quickly resolve this issue. We are ramping up fully compliant replacement stock as we speak and are actively shipping products.
Please reach out to your TWG representative for special deals and to discuss next steps for any non-compliant tires you have in your inventory.
We highly value your partnership and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Best Regards,
Dave Albert

Description of the Noncompliance :
The subject tires are marked with an Alpine symbol, the Three Peak Mountain SnowFlake (“3PMSF”), in accordance with the European Union UNECE R-117 protocol and associated snow traction testing conducted by TUV. However, the subject tires were not tested in accordance with the ASTM F1805 snow traction test required by FMVSS 139 and, as such, do not meet the definition of snow tire per 49 CFR 571.139 S5.5(i). Both the UNECE R-117 protocol and FMVSS 139 rely on the same 3PMSF symbol to designate tires as snow tires for the European Union and U.S. markets, respectively. FMVSS 1 : 139 – New pneumatic radial tires for light vehicles
FMVSS 2 : NR Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24T-001 Page 2 Description of the Safety Risk : The Wheel Group is not aware of any safety incidents in the field related to
performance in snow, and the subject tires display the 3PMSF symbol in accordance with the UNECE R-117 protocol to demonstrate acceptable performance in snow. Out of an abundance of caution, The Wheel Group instituted a stop-ship on March 18, 2024 of all inventory marked with the 3PMSF symbol and will begin to inform dealers and distributors to stop customer sales.
Description of the Cause : The Wheel Group relied on compliance with the UNECE R-117 protocol and associated TUV testing, rather than ASTM F1805 testing, as the basis for applying the 3PMSF symbol. Identification of Any Warning NR

We are updating our affected tire population based on this new information. Distributors will be notified to stop sale and inspect tires in the new population, and owners will be notified when the remedy is available.
