Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2013 Coachmen Cross Country and 2023 Coachmen Sportscoach Motorhomes. The entry door latch may fail and not allow entry or exit.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the door latch, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 7, 2023. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-8212. Forest River’s number for this recall is 310-1603.

Dear Forest River Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent in accordance with the requirements of the United States’ National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in one single 2013 Coachmen Cross Country, in addition to certain 2023 Coachmen Sportscoach Class A Motorhome recreational vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
According to the Recall Notice – 23E008 – received from Lippert Components: “The defect is an attachment point within the entry door latch supplied to Lippert for installation into specific series of RV Entry Doors. A specific attachment point was inadvertently weakened when the vendor implemented an improvement to create a more secure attachment groove for the retaining ring in the handle design of the latch.”
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
According to the Recall Notice – 23E008 – received from Lippert Components: “A defective entry door latch would not allow entry or exit via the door.” Increasing the risk of injury.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The entry door lock will be inspected and replaced if necessary. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is .7 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.
WHAT IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY PAID FOR REPAIRS TO YOUR VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR CONDITION?
If you have already paid for a repair that is within the scope of this defect under recall, you still need to have this recall inspected and/or performed to ensure the correct parts and procedures were utilized .Additionally, you may be eligible for a refund of previously paid repairs. Refunds will only be provided for within the scope of this defect under recall.

GLOBAL ENTRY DOOR LATCH INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS *MOTORIZED UNITS ONLY
Chronology :
On February 10, 2023, Lippert Components requested a meeting with Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”).
On February 13, 2023, OCC and Lippert met. Lippert supplied OCC with the shipping history and which manufacturing plants received the subject entry doors. The manufacturing plant provided OCC with the make and model(s) that used the subject entry doors.
On February 28, 2023, Forest Rivers Office of Corporate Compliance received notice of recall 23E008 via email from Lippert Components. On the same day Forest River was able to identify vehicles in the scope of the recall using purchasing records.
On March 3, 2023, OCC will notify Forest Rivers Corporate recall committee of this Equipment Pass Through Recall
A-1 On March 2, 2023, Lippert Components communicated to OCC that Lippert Components found an additional door that was sold to Forest River. Using the Purchase Order Number provided by Lippert Components, Forest River was able to locate the door that was used to replace a door in a MY 2013 Cross Country Class A Motorhome vehicle that was at the factory for service.”

A-3 On April 14, 2023, Lippert sent updated remedy instructions due to availability of parts. Forest River will continue to use the original remedy as Lippert did confirm they have enough part availability for the 20 vehicles we recalled.

This Customer Notification is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the United States National Traffic
and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
Lippert has conducted a thorough investigation and determined an issue which relates to motor vehicle safety may
exist in certain vehicles equipped with specific entry doors for motorized RV product built with Global Link
Motorized Rotary Latch MRL-41210-2006. There is the possibility the latch may malfunction and pose an issue with
exit from the motorhome. Our records indicate your company purchased one or more of the involved Lippert entry
doors built between 09/01/2022 and 01/21/2023 containing the latch which is the subject of this recall. The entry
doors sold to you which are subject to the recall are listed in detail in a spreadsheet included with this notice. If these
products are still in your inventory, you must not sell or install these into units. It is a violation of federal law
to sell any of the listed awnings covered by this recall until the defect is remedied. The awning inspection
instructions are enclosed with this letter.
WHAT WE WILL DO
Lippert will reimburse dealers or mobile repair facilities to inspect and/or replace the latches of certain entry doors
installed on motorized RV’s. Please see the enclosed instructions. Any parts which may be determined to be needed
for the remedy are currently available.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
You or your dealer must inspect the involved component as outlined on the attached instructions and submit a claim
documenting the inspection and verification of no issue found for payment of the labor charges. If an issue is found,
you or your dealer must complete the outlined repair for payment of the labor charges. Lippert’s Customer Service
department may be reached via email at recall@lci1.com or via phone at 574-538-4514 if there are any questions.
Lippert does not require advance contact or a pre-auth be obtained. Labor allowance for this latch inspection is 0.3
hours. Labor allowance for inspection and replacement of this latch is 0.7 hours with the latch not required to be
returned. Lippert will coordinate shipments of any needed replacement latches with the RV Manufacturer.

Inside Latch Assembly Part To Be Replaced
This section of document refers to the replacement of the inside latch assembly of the complete door
lock assembly with latch on certain motorized entry doors. A portion of the latch is breaking off when
attempting to exit the coach. The instructions are applicable to using a replacement inside latch assembly
PN 2023005033 for the 920 Series door and inside latch assembly PN 2022010407 for the 3500 Series door.
NOTE: Check first for an “INSPECTED LATCH” sticker on the inside of the door frame between the hinges
(Fig. 12). If it is present, report back to the OEM that the VIN has already been addressed.
Safety
This document provides general instructions. Many variables can change the circumstances of any
procedure, i.e. the degree of difficulty involved in the service operation and the ability level of the individual
performing the operation. This document cannot begin to plot out procedures for every possibility, but will
provide the general instructions for effectively installing, removing or servicing the system. In the event the
skill level required is too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted

Procedures
Disassemble Latch
1. Open entry door so it is perpendicular to the coach.
2. Peel off adhesive patch covering the access port for the latch fastening nut (Fig. 1).
3. Use 7/16” nut driver to remove threaded nut (Figs. 2 and 3) and set aside.
NOTE: Be careful not to let the nut fall out of the nut driver and down into the door while removing.
4. While another person supports the outside latch assembly, remove the three Phillips head screws on
the inside of the assembly (Fig. 4) and set aside.
5. Remove both sides of latch assembly.

NOTE: Check first for an “INSPECTED LATCH” sticker on the inside of the door frame between the hinges
(Fig. 12). If it is present, report back to the OEM that the VIN has already been addressed. If not
inspected, proceed with inspection.
1. Using a 1/4″ screwgun bit, try to insert the bit into the spun rivet of the inside latch assembly (Fig. 5).
2. If bit fits into rivet opening there are two options:
A. Replace the complete latch assembly, including both inside and outside latch assemblies.
B. Replace just the inside latch assembly to be combined with current outside latch assembly.
3. If the bit does not fit, no action is required. Proceed to latch reassembly instructions.

3. While another person holds the outside assembly, loosely reinstall the three Phillips head screws (Fig. 8).
4. Align deadbolt and then extend the deadbolt so it appears on the outside of the door frame (Fig. 9).
5. When deadbolt is extended, firmly tighten the three Phllips head screws (Fig. 10).
Reassemble Latch Assembly: Including Both Full, Partial Replacement
1. Slide inside latch assembly into place. Keep deadbolt handle in the 10 o’clock position (Fig. 6).
NOTE: Do NOT let deadbolt pop out of place. It may be difficult to reinstall.
2. While another person holds the inside latch assembly in place, reinstall the latch nut and tighten slowly
with nut driver until a few threads of the bolt are visible (Fig. 7).
NOTE: Do NOT tighten nut completely. The latch will not operate correctly if the nut is too tight.

Purpose
This document refers to the replacement of the door lock assembly with latch on certain motorized entry
doors. A portion of the latch is breaking off when attempting to exit the coach. The complete door lock
assembly with latch, PN 2021097898, will be replaced with a redesigned part, if needed.
NOTE: Check first for an “INSPECTED LATCH” sticker on the inside of the door frame between the hinges
(Fig. 12). If it is present, report back to the OEM that the VIN has already been addressed.
Safety
This document provides general instructions. Many variables can change the circumstances of any
procedure, i.e. the degree of difficulty involved in the service operation and the ability level of the individual
performing the operation. This document cannot begin to plot out procedures for every possibility, but will
provide the general instructions for effectively installing, removing or servicing the system. In the event the
skill level required is too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted
before performing the necessary operation. Failure to correctly install, remove or service the system may
result in voiding the warranty, inflicting injury or even death.

Procedure
Disassemble Latch
1. Open entry door so it is perpendicular to the coach.
2. Peel off adhesive patch covering the access port for the latch fastening nut (Fig. 1 ).
3. Use 7 /16″ nut driver to remove threaded nut (Figs. 2 and 3) and set aside.
NOTE: Be careful not to let the nut fall out of the nut driver and down into the door while removing.
4. While another person supports the outside latch assembly, remove the three Phillips head screws on
the inside of the assembly (Fig. 4) and set aside.
5. Remove both sides of latch assembly.

Inspection
NOTE: Check first for an “INSPECTED LATCH” sticker on the inside of the door frame between the hinges
(Fig. 12). If it is present, report back to the OEM that the VIN has already been addressed. If not
inspected, proceed with inspection.
1. Using a 1 /4″ screwgun bit, try to insert the bit into the spun rivet of the inside latch assembly (Fig. 5).
2. If bit fits into rivet opening, replace the complete latch assembly including both inside and outside
latch assemblies.
3. if the bit does not fit, no action is required. Proceed to latch reassembly instructions.

Reassemble Latch

Dear Forest River Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent in accordance with the requirements of the United States’ National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in one single 2013 Coachmen Cross Country, in addition to certain 2023 Coachmen Sportscoach Class A Motorhome recreational vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
According to the Recall Notice – 23E008 – received from Lippert Components: “The defect is an attachment point within the entry door latch supplied to Lippert for installation into specific series of RV Entry Doors. A specific attachment point was inadvertently weakened when the vendor implemented an improvement to create a more secure attachment groove for the retaining ring in the handle design of the latch.”
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
According to the Recall Notice – 23E008 – received from Lippert Components: “A defective entry door latch would not allow entry or exit via the door.” Increasing the risk of injury.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The entry door lock will be inspected and replaced if necessary. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is .7 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

Lippert teams quarantined all product and began replacing suspect product with new product supplied by vendor which addressed and corrected the concern. Description of Recall Schedule : Forest River has the utmost urgency in our recalls. Forest River will send
suspected VIN numbers to our third party vendor that is licensed to pull data on the current owner of the vehicles (as needed) once a formal NHTSA I.D. is provided. Forest River intends on pushing the mailing out as soon as NHTSA provides any correction(s) and an Acknowledgement Letter.
