Modular Style Tire and Wheel Assemblies Tires were installed onto trailers rated for a capacity of 14,000 lbs .. The load rating capacity of the tires equals 12,168 lbs .. Dually Style Tire and Wheel Assemblies Tires were installed onto trailers rated for a capacity of 24,000 lbs .. The load rating capacity of the tires equal 22,224 lbs. Modular Wheel Style – Load Rating E Load Rated – 3,042 lbs x 2 tires per axle = Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 6,084 lbs. Multiply this by 2 (Axles per Trailer) = a working capacity of the trailer of 12,168 lbs. F Load Rated- 3,960 lbs x 2 tires per axle = Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 7,920 lbs. A quantity of 630 Cooper Discoverer HT3 Tires with Load Rating “E” was supplied to Towmaster as part of a Tire and Wheel Assembly. These were supplied under two different tire/ wheel assembly part numbers 276020(Qty 530) and 275042(Qty 100). The tire and wheel assembly part numbers that were installed onto the higher capacity trailers are 276020 (Qty 84 tires/ 21 Trailers) and 275042 (Qty 41 tires/ 5 Trailers). In addition there were a quantity of 4 – 276020 Tire/Wheel assemblies sold through the parts sales channel that need to be investigated for the proper usage. In total we have 129 tires that need to be replaced across 26 t railers and 3 individual part orders. FMVSS 1 : 119 – New pneumatic tires- other than passenger cars FMVSS 2 : 109 – New pneumatic and certain specialty tires Description of the Safety Risk : Pre-mature tire wear and potential failure of tire. The target configuration was Cooper tires installed on any units having a capacity of over 12,000 lbs .. 5/9 /22 – Received list of shipments from supplier for Cooper equipped 276020 assemblies. This initiated the review of build records against trailer model numbers to identify suspect population of dually application. The target configuration was Cooper tires installed on any dually units that had a capacity of over 24,000 lbs .. 6/27 /22 – Final population list identified of suspect trailers. 7 /6/22 – Updated trailer population list finalized. 7 /18/22 – Updated tracking list to include 3 parts orders with a quantity of 4 276020 Tire/Wheel Assemblies that need to be investigated. These events will be handled through the Towmaster warranty claims process where parts and labor will be covered. How Remedy Component Differs The distinguishing factor for the remedy is to have the “E” load rated tires from Recalled Component: replaced with a minimum of load rating of “F”. Identify How/When Recall Condition 5/10/22 – Inspection records updated to include the review and collection was Corrected in Production : of load range data against shop orders. These were supplied under two different tire/ wheel assembly part numbers 276020(Qty 530) and 275042(Qty 100). The tire and wheel assembly part numbers that were installed onto the higher capacity trailers are 276020 (Qty 84 tires / 21 Trailers) and 275042 (Qty 41 tires / 5 Trailers). In addition there were a quantity of 4 – 276020 Tire/Wheel assemblies sold through the parts sales channel that need to be investigated for the proper usage. In total we have 129 tires that need to be replaced across 26 trailers and 3 individual part orders. These events will be handled through the Towmaster warranty claims process where parts and labor will be covered. 8-8-2022 – These units are considered new and will be covered under the manufacturers warranty program. Repairs to be made by Dealerships and Independent repair facilities will be handled through Towmaster’s warranty program. Reimbursement will be direct payment of Dealership or Repair facility. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The distinguishing factor for the remedy is to have the “E” load rated tires replaced with a minimum of load rating of “F”.
