Summary
On April 8th 2025 our vehicle went into "limp mode" for the third time in 6 months. The previous incidents were part of an active recall and we're repaired by a does dealership. This time it is supposedly the failure of a fuel pump sensor causing the issue (per ford service diagnosis) which they say is NOT covered by fords recall nor is it covered under any warranty and must be paid for out of pocket. This repeat occurrence has caused our vehicle to stall in traffic not just when at stops but also just when turning or pulling onto streets or highway. This has happened while crossing busy streets putting the lives of our family at RISK MULTIPLE times. Ford
refuses to pay for rental vehicles while our vehicle has been in repair for this issue and also while the vehicle is in an unsafe condition to drive. This also causes undo hardship for our family as we are not able to pay for a rental vehicle for extended amounts of time while our vehicle is in an unsafe state. I am highly concerned that Ford
is trying to "wash their hands" of this vehicle and avoid true remedy the overwhelming evidence of problems of these vehicles. I have included the previous invoices for the recall repairs that caused this. I have not yet received the invoice for the repair being done currently as of 4/17/2025 .There are additional safety issues we've encountered with the "safety features" of the vehicle that i will be submitting separately.

On March 2, 2025, while driving my BMW i4 with my daughter, the vehicle suddenly spun out twice into oncoming freeway traffic during a routine lane change, violently crashing into an embankment. Thankfully, we weren’t physically hurt, but my daughter was deeply traumatized. We brought the car to Stevens Creek BMW
immediately. What followed only made things worse. Rather than investigate the serious safety failure, the service team blamed us—citing the i4’s heavy battery as the cause. They admitted it causes accelerated tire wear but denied any responsibility. They also falsely inflated our mileage to 22,892 miles (actual: 15,109) to justify the wear and shift blame. BMW
is now demanding over $10,000 in repairs and has threatened $110/day in storage fees—pressuring us as we seek a fair solution. As longtime BMW
customers, we trusted the brand with our safety. That trust is gone. A car under a year old should not spin out from normal driving. This is a clear safety defect. Efforts to escalate through BMW
Consumer Services failed: the listed support email bounced, and the Consumer Advocacy page led to a dead link (screenshots available). That page has since been removed—highlighting a broken system. Unprofessional Conduct & Lack of Transparency At the dealership, I was treated dismissively for raising concerns and forced to return the loaner car despite no resolution. We’ve had to rent a car while still paying $776.64/month for an undriveable lease. BMW
also refused to share the inspection report allegedly conducted by BMW
USA engineers—despite initially promising it. BMW
staff admitted the i4’s heavy battery causes premature tire wear—a known risk never disclosed at lease signing. This vehicle should never have been released without warning consumers. We no longer feel safe in this vehicle. We respectfully request: Lease Termination & Buyout — BMW
to fully cover the lease as nothing they've offered us reflects the trauma, risk, or poor treatment we’ve endured.

Summary
This vehicle has an electronic shifting transmission and when shifting from drive to reverse, the system lags significantly (1-3) seconds before engaging reverse. This has been an issue causing several close calls. In addition to not being able to back up efficiently and being left hanging in limbo while waiting for the transmission to engage, the vehicle also continues to roll forward causing near collisions. Happens while maneuvering the vehicle in situations where a three point turn is necessary or when trying to quickly go from drive to reverse in an attempt to avoid another traffic unit or on coming hazard. Has been brought to Ford for them to check and they advised after a test drive that the vehicle shifts smoothly. The smoothness of the shifting was not the concern. It was the lag between drive to reverse. I believe it needs a software reprogram for the transmission.

Recently, while the vehicle was parked, I discovered a significant crack in the front windshield originating from the passenger side edge with a length of approximately 10 inches. Notably, there are no visible signs of impact, such as rock chips or debris damage, indicating the crack developed spontaneously. This sudden failure compromises the structural integrity of the windshield, potentially reducing protection in the event of a collision and distorting visibility, thereby posing a safety risk. in Concord, NC, where the dealership visually confirmed the crack. However, they denied warranty coverage, citing that the issue occurred beyond the 12-month coverage window. No prior warning lights, messages, or symptoms indicated any issues before the windshield cracked. Upon researching, I found that other owners of 2023 Dodge
Challengers have reported similar spontaneous windshield cracks without any impact, suggesting a potential manufacturing defect. For instance, a user on a Challenger
forum reported a 6-inch crack on the passenger side of their windshield, which appeared without any impact and extended halfway across the windshield by the end of the day. I believe this issue may be related to inadequate windshield adhesion or stress from body flex, possibly due to manufacturing defects. I am submitting this complaint to bring attention to a potential safety defect that may affect other vehicles of the same model and year.
