Immobilizer and key programming involves pairing vehicle keys and key fobs (including transponder chips
and remote modules) with the car’s immobilizer or body control module so the vehicle will recognize authorized keys and start only with them. This is a routine procedure when replacing lost or damaged keys, installing new remotes, or swapping immobilizer modules, and it typically requires specialized dealer or locksmith tools to write transponder IDs, synchronize remote/buttons, and configure security settings.
Most keys can be programmed via OBDII using tools such as Autel Scanner MaxiIM KM100, Xhorse Key Tool Max Pro or XTOOL X100 MAX.
Some older vehicles are done using EEPROM using tools such as Multi PROG, VVDI Prog or XGecu T76 to program or add keys.
