Summary
On XXX, while Full Self-Driving (Supervised) was engaged, my 2022 Tesla Model 3 RWD abruptly decelerated without any visible vehicle, pedestrian, debris, or other obstacle requiring braking. Based on my best recollection, this occurred on approximately five separate occasions in clear daylight with clean cameras. On XXX, the first event occurred near XXX while traveling from [XXX] toward the [XXX]/[XXX] area. I took manual control for about 30 minutes. After I re-engaged FSD, a second event occurred and included approximately three rapid braking pulses. The occupants lunged forward during both episodes. On XXX, the drive from [XXX] to the Ukiah Costco was normal. On the return toward [XXX], FSD suddenly braked hard at approximately 63 mph and reduced the vehicle's speed by about 25 mph, to approximately 38 mph. Family members and friends in the vehicle were startled and moved forward. Later that day, there were two additional unexpected braking episodes while traveling from XXX toward XXX. I used accelerator input to override the unwanted braking. The unexpected highway-speed deceleration created a risk of being struck from behind and made the system unpredictable to supervise. No crash, fire, injury, or property damage occurred. I do not recall a warning message before the braking. The vehicle has not been inspected or diagnosed for this issue and is available for inspection upon request. On numerous occasions, while driving either on highways or streets, vehicle would brake on its own or aggressive braking when this type of braking was unnecessary. I was hospitalized for whiplash in one incident. After braking for NO REASON!!! GM sent a tow truck to pick up my vehicle, and I have not heard back for more than 100 days. If GM cannot fix this issue as stated in [XXX] then I should be compensated for the lack of use and my medical bills as well as loss of use. Our Edge titanium had been experiencing intermittant hesitation and shuttering on acceleration and decelleration for 3 or 4 weeks. The car has 105,000 miles on it. During this time frame the spark plugs were changed, the trans fluid was drained and replaced twice and an additive (Shutter fix) was put in. The shuttering and hesitation was becoming more frequent despited completing all of the reccomendations from a local mechanic. On XXX my wifte was diving home, when he slowed down to exit the hwy to enter the subdivision, the transmission just disengauged and an erro code appeared P07E6. (Stuck in Park) service soon. She had enough momentum to barely exit off [XXX], if there was on coming traffic she would have been a sitting duck. Se shut the car off and let it sit for a couple of minutes and the restarted it and headed the 2 blocks home. I Immediatly took it to the dealer. The got the code and said it indicated a Park Pawl failure. They said it must be sticking and the computer thought you were in park when you were driving so it shut things down. The dealer says he has had to replace several of these 8 speed transmissions at an out the door price of $11,000. He says if he can rebuild it, it might only be $7,500. Most mechanics in Spearfish say they have heard there are problems with the 8 speed transmission. I believe failing at 104,000 miles is a sign of a bad product. And this faulty Park Pawl is a safety hazzard that may get someone killed if it shuts down with on coming traffic. On July 15, 2026, I took the vehicle to Lafontaine Ford for maintenance and to address open recalls. I was informed that the open recall for the low-pressure fuel pump (campaign 25S75) did not have a solution available. Due to the severity of the recall, I contacted the Ford Customer Care Center. A representative stated that a solution would be available on July 17, 2026, and that they would contact Lafontaine Ford to prioritize the vehicle for repair on July 18, 2026. On July 17, 2026, I followed up with Lafontaine Ford and confirmed they had received no contact or notation from Ford regarding prioritization. Lafontaine Ford also stated they had no information on when parts would become available and that nothing could be done at that time. I then contacted the Ford Customer Care Center again because no action had been taken, even though the recall has been open since approximately July 8, 2025. A Ford Customer Care Center representative confirmed that no remedy was available for my model year and that they did not know when one would be available. Due to the seriousness of the recall, I requested a courtesy vehicle. The Ford representative contacted Lafontaine Ford regarding this request and then disconnected the call. The Lafontaine Ford representative informed me they could not provide a courtesy vehicle without written confirmation from Ford due to the dealership having no reasonable timeframe of when parts/remedy would be available. When I called the Ford Customer Care Center back and explained what Lafontaine Ford had told me, I was treated indifferently and was disconnected twice. I eventually spoke with a supervisor who refused to escalate the concern or provide any assistance with the documentation Lafontaine Ford said they needed in order to provide a courtesy vehicle.
