RE: NHTSA RECALL 22E021 for Dometic CE99-ZF and PI8022
COOKTOPS
Dear Valued Customer,
Dometic Corporation has decided that a potential safety-related defect exists on the CE99-ZF and PI8022 cooktops that were manufactured between August 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
The Problem:
The user of a recreational vehicle or marine vessel may become aware of the potential safety-related defect during operation of the cooktop. The burner control valve, mated directly to the control knob via the valve stem, may leak gas. This gas will leak directly into the recessed portion of the cooktop, where the knobs and ignitor are located, and may be ignited by the active burner(s). The ignition will result in a small pilot flame directly at the control knob.
The Risk:
There is an increased risk of injury and fire.
Affected Units:
The recall population consists of cooktop models CE99-ZF and PI8022 with the affected serial numbers indicated below.

The Dometic Brand equipment which is the subject of this potential safety-related defect notification is comprised of cooktops which were purchased by, and manufactured for, Dometic by Chinabest Home Appliance Co., Ltd; No.2 Fuqing Yi Road, Henglan Town / Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, China.
The affected Dometic products which may contain the potential safety-related defect are recreational vehicle type cooktops containing specific burner control valves. These RV cooktops were manufactured between late 2020 and June 2021. The potentially affected cooktops have the model designations set forth below.
• CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
o 02093610034000001 – 02093610034000600
o 11993610034000001 – 11993610034000510

Serial number ranges are indicated with their respective models above. The first digit is the year of manufacture, the second and third digits are week number for the year of manufacture and the remaining numbers are sequence numbers. These products are used in recreational vehicles of Original Equipment Manufacture, or as replacement equipment for recreation vehicles or marine vessels. The total population of these products with the potential safety-related defect pertaining to the burner control valves is no more than 2,600 units. There have been no reported incidents of gas leaks, injury or death involving these products in the United States.
There were 7 reported incidents in Europe involving different cooktops with the same burner control valve, however, these claims did not result in injuries. (A Dometic Group Affiliate in Europe has initiated a recall in Europe of cooking products that contain this same burner control valve.)
The potential safety-related product defect related to the burner control valve as noted herein is not present in any other Dometic Cooking Products.
The detailed description of the potential safety-related defect is associated with the burner control valve where the valve stem is located directly behind the cooking knob of the cooktops. Pictures of the burner control valve and the location where the potential safety-related defect may become pronounced or evident to the user are shown below.
The burner control valve may have incurred abrasions, internally or externally, on the mating metal sealing surfaces of the burner control valve that may have led to leaks as noted in different European models, and could possibly lead to similar leak incidents in a limited number of US cooktop models as noted above.
Dometic Corporation has NOT yet identified a proposed remedy or remedies designed to mitigate the defect but will advise NHTSA of such remedy or remedies when they become available in accordance with CFR 49, part 573.
Dometic Corporation will supply the customer lists for the CE-99ZF and PI8022 cooktops when they become available, and the remedy activity to take place with its customers. Dometic Corporation will file OEM letters, Dealer letters, Retail letters, and End User letters in accordance with CFR 49, Subtitle B, Chapter V, Part 573.
This Defect Notice is being reported to NHTSA within the 5-day requirement of Title 49, Subtitle B, Chapter V, Part 573, Clause 573.6.

CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS LEADING TO DEFECT DETERMINATION
Dometic Corporation was made aware during the second week of March 2022 of seven separate complaints regarding certain products distributed in Europe by a Dometic Group Affiliate. The subject European products were cooktops that exhibited gas leaks behind the burner control knob. The cooktops distributed in Europe are different from the cooktops offered in the US, however the burner control valves of certain cooktops sold by Dometic Corporation in the US are substantially similar. Globally, no injuries or deaths related to burner control valves have been reported to date. In the United States, no field incidents of gas leaks or injuries have occurred to date from any burner control valves in cooktop units sold by Dometic Corporation. Dometic Corporation has placed a hold for stock on hand and a hold on shipments of cooktops that contain the potential safety-related defect at the burner control valve while we investigate inventory as well as all field information available regarding these burner control components. As of March 30, 2022, the known model numbers affected are listed below:
• CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
• PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
Dometic Corporation initiated an internal safety escalation process on March 17, 2022 and is filing the official Defect Notification to NHTSA in accordance with CFR 49, Subtitle B, Chapter V, Part 573, Clause 573.6 and the 5-day reporting requirement.

RE: NHTSA RECALL 22E021 for Dometic CE99-ZF and PI8022 COOKTOPS
• CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
o 02093610034000001 – 02093610034000600
o 11993610034000001 – 11993610034000510
o 12593610034000001 – 12593610034000500
• PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
o 11093610034600001 – 11093610034600550
o 12393610034600001 – 12393610034600550
IF YOU OWN ONE OF THE UNITS SHOWN ABOVE, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE GAS OFF AT THE RV LP TANK REGULATOR. THEREAFTER, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE LP GAS WITHIN THE RV UNTIL THE COOKTOP HAS BEEN REMEDIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS RECALL.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THESE COOKTOPS ON YOUR OWN. ANY REPAIR OR REMEDY SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY A DOMETIC-QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIAN.
How do I know if my cooktop is part of the 22E021 NHTSA recall?
1. Find the CE99-ZF or PI8022 model number and serial numbers by locating the nameplate on the unit, underneath the cooktop, visible when the cooktop is raised (see below).
2. If you are unsure, call 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com to confirm that your CE99-ZF or PI8022 series cooktop is one in the population of recalled units for Recall 22E021.
How do I remedy my CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop with the Dometic remedy without cost?
1. Make sure you keep this notice.
2. DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR ON YOUR OWN: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE IF YOUR UNIT IS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL.
3. Contact any Dometic authorized dealer/service center, call the Dometic Recall Hotline at 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com. They will direct you to a Service Center to have the remedy installed on your RV or Boat CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop so that the leak from this potential safety-related defect will not occur in the future.
4. The remedy will be available for field installation at Dometic authorized service centers or participating OEM locations after May 13, 2022 and will be installed at NOT COST to you. The remedy for an affected unit will be a complete replacement of the cooktop. The Dometic Authorized Service Center will install the remedy for you. This repair will take approximately one and a half hours to complete.
5. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE REPAIR YOURSELF. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY CREATE A GAS LEAK THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH FROM A GAS EVENT.
6. There is a RECALL RESPONSE CARD with each RECALL REMEDY KIT. Make sure that the service center or dealer fills in the 22E021 Cooktop Recall Response Card and sends it back to Dometic Corporation. The Recall Response Card is already set up with postage for return.
What if my affected CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop was repaired prior to the recall?
1. Make sure you keep this notice.
2. Please call us at the Dometic Recall Number 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com and provide us with the serial number information for the unit, a picture of the data plate confirming the serial number as shown above and a copy of the original receipt for the repair.
3. Reimbursement for parts and labor will be provided.
If YOU no longer own the RV or Boat with the CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop:
If you are no longer an owner of a RV or Boat that has a CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop, please call us at the Dometic Recall Number 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com and provide us the name and address of the new owner, dealer, service center, or whomever you delivered the RV or RV appliance to. We would greatly appreciate you furnishing us with this information so we can follow through with notification to the subsequent owner.
You may receive more than one mailing regarding Recall 22E021:
To reach as many customers as possible who own a RV or Boat with the Dometic CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop installed, Dometic Corporation and the original equipment manufacturers of RV’s and Boats will each send notifications, which ALL pertain to the same single recall (22E021).
One Final Request:
Dometic Corporation appreciates your business and is committed to your safety. Before you forget, please check to see if your CE99-ZF or PI8022 cooktop is one of the models shown above and if it is in the recall population. Follow these instructions so that you remain safe, and your cooktop gets the proper remedy applied.
If you find it difficult to carry out the instructions provided, please call our Recall Hotline at 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com. If you still cannot complete the remedy and are dissatisfied with our service, you can file a written complaint to: Administrator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1200 New Jersey Ave SE, Washington, DC 20590; or you may go to https://www.safercar.gov, or call the toll-free NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153).
On a Personal Note:
Dometic Corporation sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience that this may have caused. We are dedicated to developing innovative products that are safe to use, serve the needs and enhance the experience of our mobile customers. Thank you for this opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,

RE: NHTSA RECALL 22E021 for Dometic CE99-ZF and PI8022 Series Cooktops
Dear Valued Customer,
Dometic Corporation has determined that a potential safety-related defect exists with respect to the CE99-ZF and PI8022 series COOKTOPS manufactured between August 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. Our records indicate that some of the product, (“cooktops”), listed below were purchased by your company and may either be in your inventory or have been installed in a RV that your company sells. Dometic Corporation apologizes for the inconvenience that this places on your business and the requirement that you now have, per CFR 49, Part 573, to initiate your own recall to handle these products.
Please note that as of this notice it is unlawful for you to sell a product that is installed, but not sold or is in your inventory before it has had the remedy applied.
Dometic Corporation is advising you to locate ALL the following models of recreational vehicle cooktops and quarantine those that have not been installed in a RV or that are still in your inventory. Furthermore, you will need to collect model, serial number, and VIN number of ALL RV’s that have been shipped with these model cooktops (corresponding to the serial numbers listed below) installed and provide that list to Dometic Corporation as early as possible. The following models with their respective serial number ranges may be in your inventory.
• CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
o 02093610034000001 – 02093610034000600
o 11993610034000001 – 11993610034000510
o 12593610034000001 – 12593610034000500
• PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
o 11093610034600001 – 11093610034600550
o 12393610034600001 – 12393610034600550
Dometic Corporation will provide full replacement cooktops as the remedy for this recall. The remedy kit will include instructions, a replacement unit, a mandatory recall response card (to be filled out at the time of the repair), and specific requirements that an authorized service center must install the remedy free of charge to the end use customer. All remedy installations at the OEM will require that the recall response card be filled out and returned to Dometic Corporation when the remedy is completed. The recall response card is an essential requirement to protect both the OEM and Dometic Corporation in the record keeping and reporting of the recall remedy process to NHTSA.
Please advise all your dealer body organizations, that as of this notice, it is unlawful for them to sell a product that is installed but not sold to an end user or is in their inventory before it has had the remedy applied to the product.
We understand that you may have sold and shipped product ahead of this notice and we are willing to participate in supporting you, by distributing the same remedy kits to your end use customers, if you so choose. Whether you choose to allow us to conduct this remedy campaign on your behalf or whether you elect to conduct the campaign on your own, please provide lists of customers, the vehicle type, VIN number, and other pertinent information needed to contact these customers and for the reporting responsibilities that Dometic Corporation has to NHTSA. Additionally, see section below entitled “What you need to do.”
What Dometic Corporation Will Do:
Dometic Corporation is aggressively approaching all OEM’s, Dealers, Retailers, and End Users with certified letters (for which they must sign), defining the product, models, population, and direction on action to be taken.
The remedy will consist of 1) instructions to locate the cooktop serial number 2) Recall Response Card to be filled out and returned to receive the replacement unit. Again, Dometic Corporation is supplying this recall remedy at no charge.
If you are unsure, call 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com to confirm that your CE99-ZF or PI8022 series COOKTOPS are within the population of recalled units for Recall 22E021.
What You Need to Do:
Pursuant to NHTSA regulations, 49CFR 573.6, upon receipt of this notice the OEM must file their own Defect Report to NHTSA. If any of the vehicles in which the cooktops are installed are to be sold into Canada, you should also submit a defect report to Transport Canada.
Please make sure that you send Dometic Corporation an inventory of ALL units with one of these products in your stock, so that we can supply the replacement units for remedy expeditiously. The remedy is being supplied at no charge.
If you have any questions, please call us at 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com.

Dometic Corporation apologizes for the inconvenience that this places on your business and the requirement that you now have, per Title 49; Subtitle B; Chapter V; Part 573; §573.11.
§ 573.11 Prohibition on sale or lease of new defective and noncompliant motor vehicles and items of replacement equipment.
(a) If notification is required by an order under 49 U.S.C. 30118(b) or is required under 49 U.S.C. 30118(c) and the manufacturer has provided to a dealer (including retailers of motor vehicle equipment) notification about a new motor vehicle or new item of replacement equipment in the dealer’s possession, including actual and constructive possession, at the time of notification that contains a defect related to motor vehicle safety or does
not comply with an applicable motor vehicle safety standard issued under 49 CFR part 571, the dealer may sell or lease the motor vehicle or item of replacement equipment only if:
(1) The defect or noncompliance is remedied as required by 49 U.S.C. 30120 before delivery under the sale or lease; or
(2) When the notification is required by an order under 49 U.S.C. 30118(b), enforcement of the order is restrained or the order is set aside in a civil action to which 49 U.S.C. 30121(d) applies.
(b) Paragraph (a) of this section does not prohibit a dealer from offering the vehicle or equipment for sale or lease, provided that the dealer does not sell or lease it.
All remedy installations at the dealer or service center will require that the recall response card be filled out and returned to Dometic Corporation when the remedy is completed. The recall response card is an essential requirement to protect
both the dealer or service center and Dometic Corporation in the record keeping and reporting of the recall remedy process to NHTSA.
Per the Code of Federal Regulations; Title 49; Subtitle B; Chapter V; Part 573; §573.11, as of this notice it is unlawful for you to sell or lease a product that is installed but not sold/leased or is in your inventory before it has had the remedy applied to the product.
Please make sure that you send Dometic Corporation an inventory of ALL units with one of these products in your stock, so that we can supply the replacement units for remedy expeditiously. The remedy is being supplied at no charge.
If you are unsure whether the cooktop has a serial number that is in the recall or if you have any questions, please call us at 888-943-4905 or 574-389-3713 or email us at Recall.Cooktop.22E021@Dometic.com.

were cooktops that exhibited gas leaks behind the burner control knob. The cooktops distributed in Europe are
different from the cooktops offered in the US, however the burner control valves of certain cooktops sold by
Dometic Corporation in the US are substantially similar. Globally, no injuries or deaths related to burner
control valves have been reported to date. In the United States, no field incidents of gas leaks or injuries have
occurred to date from any burner control valves in cooktop units sold by Dometic Corporation. Dometic
Corporation has placed a hold for stock on hand and a hold on shipments of cooktops that contain the potential
safety-related defect at the burner control valve while we investigate inventory as well as all field information
available regarding these burner control components. As of March 30, 2022, the known model numbers
affected are listed below:
• CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
• PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover
Dometic Corporation initiated an internal safety escalation process on March 17, 2022 and is filing the official
Defect Notification to NHTSA in accordance with CFR 49, Subtitle B, Chapter V, Part 573, Clause 573.6 and the
5-day reporting requirement.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Remedy will be made by replacement/exchange with newer cooktops that
are not within the recall population. Remedy replacement will be
completed at no cost to the end user. The user will indicate that they have
an affected cooktop and supply the serial number information to Dometic
Corporation. The remedy replacement unit will be sent with instructions
to complete the installation and functional verification at no cost to the
end user by a qualified RV technician. Reimbursement to the qualified RV
technician will be provided once Dometic Corporation receives the recall
response card and recalled unit documenting that the replacement has
been made.
Units still in inventory at RV OEM’s and dealers will be replaced at no
charge with like units.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
The replacement/exchange unit will have a completely different serial
number outside of the recall population that will not have the defective
burner control valve. The units will be visually the same to the end user.
Identify How/When Recall Condition
was Corrected in Production :
Burner control valves from the supplier are no longer in use at the
manufacturing site. The supplier only provided a limited production run
because of production volume challenges. The factory corrective action
was put in place on or about the time of the potential defect notification to
NHTSA.
