Summary
Lakota Corporation (Lakota) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bighorn and Charger trailers equipped with certain Sailun tires, size ST235/80R16/G. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tires may experience a belt separation.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 10, 2022. Owners may contact Lakota customer service at 1-574-848-1636.

Tredit Tire and Wheel sent Lakota trailers a letter indicating Sailun Tire Americas has issued a recall, 21T-018.
Letter was received from Tredit Tire January 3, 2022. Lakota is the end manufacture and ultimately responsible to issue the recall. It was immediately decided that a recall would be issued to dealers and owners.
Reports were ran to determine quantity and specific trailers containing the tires under the Sailun recall.

February 10, 2022 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 22V-005 This notice applies to your vehicle, VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Dear Lakota Owner: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Lakota has decided a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2021 & 2022 Lakota trailers equipped with Sailun tires. In particular, the ST235/85R16 manufactured at Sailun’s Vietnam plant (1YJ) from the 20th week of 2020 through the 41st week of 2020. The defect associated with a steel belt package design change that could contribute to the tread belt separation or tread delamination, increasing the risk of a crash. Enclosed is the Safety Recall Notice. Tire owners can help reduce the associated risk by referring to their trailer placard and adhering to the prescribed air pressure and weight limitations of the vehicle. Under inflation and overload of the tires as well as excessive speed are also a contributing factor to tire failure. Your trailer has been identified as having the tires that fall within the listed factory and DOT code production range contained in Sailun Tire America’s recall. Please visit the closest Sailun Tire America’s dealer and they will replace the tire (s) with the same brand or substantially similar brand at no cost to you. STA will also over the costs to mount and balance the tires. When replacement is completed, we ask you email, mail or fax Lakota a copy of the document from the tire dealer indicating recall completed so we may report the recall as complete. After contacting the tire dealer and Lakota Customer Service, if you are still not able to have the safety defect remedied without charge and within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, S.E., Washington, DC 20590 or call 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov. If you had your tires replaced before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost. If you have any questions whether your tires are covered by this notice, or problems obtaining the needed replacement, or are seeking reimbursement, please contact Sailun Tire Americas at 1-844-281-9696. Federal law requires any lessor who receives a notification of a determination of a safety-related defect or noncompliance pertaining to any leased motor vehicle shall send the notice to the lessee within 10 days.
