Incorrect Size Safety Cable

The safety cable may not prevent trailer detachment in the event the coupler fails, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

Tracker Marine, LLC (Tracker) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Ranger Trail RT198PP and RT198PPB trailers. An incorrect-size safety cable was installed, which is under-rated for the size of the trailer.

 

Remedy

Dealers will replace the safety cable, free of charge. Owners may contact Tracker customer service at 1-417-873-4555. Tracker’s number for this recall is TS-0039.

Recall Notice

Recall #TS-0039    : Safety Cable Replacement

Condition: Need to replace equipped Class 2 safety cables with Class 4 safety cables.

Models Affected: Model Year ’21 and ’22 RT198PP non-brake and RT198PPB brake trailers

Time Allowed: .25 hour

 

Recall Information

DESCRIPTION OF CONCERN:

Affected units are equipped with Class 2 safety cables.  These need to be replaced with Class 4 safety cables.

 

REQUIRED PART NUMBER:

See instructions below.  Order the necessary parts on the dealer portal and file a claim for parts and labor once the repairs are complete.

Replace Safety Cables

RT198PP non-brake
and
RT198PPB brake trailers

Use White River Marine Group part number 186881 (class 4 safety cable) for replacement

Total time allowed 15 minutes per trailer

 

Tools needed:

1 -¾” open end wrench wrench
1 -¾” socketratchet

 

  • Remove the class 2 – 3500lb cable by holding the bolt inside the tongue with a ¾” and a ¾” socket wrench to remove the nut.

 

Replace the cable with a class 4 7,000lb.

 

  • Reinstall the washer over the cable and then thread on the nut. Tighten the nut by holding the bolt inside the tongue with a ¾” wrench and a socket wrench on the nut. Do not overtighten the nut. You should be able to pivot the cable on the bolt with a little resistance.
