VCU May Activate Anti-roll Back

Summary
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2019 Freightliner Business Class M2 vehicles equipped with a certain PowerDrive EV electric drivetrain. Due to a software error, the VCU may activate the anti-roll back feature during slow moving or stop and go conditions, which can cause unexpected vehicle movement.
Remedy
DTNA will notify owners, and Cummins dealers will update the VCU software, free of charge. The recall began November 25, 2019. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467 or DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-838.

Chronology of Defect/ Noncompliance Determination
Provide the chronology of events leading up to the defect decision or test data for the
noncompliance decision.: October 24 2019, DTNA was notified of an equipment recall (19E-070} by its
supplier, Cummins Inc. DTNA opened an investigation to determine the scope of the issue. Cummins has
provided a list of DTNA vehicles that are affected, and DTNA found five vehicles operating in the field
with the suspect VCU. DTNA has not received any reports related to unintended vehicle motion in DTNA
vehicles. November 5, 2019, DTNA decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
Identify the Remedy
Describe the defect/noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacture’s plan for
reimbursement.: Cummins Inc. is currently working on the VCU software update for the remedy. DTNA
will work with Cummins for the repair procedure in the field. Copies of the reimbursement plan will be
submitted as a supplemental report when available.
Identify the Recall Schedule
Describe the recall schedule for notifications.: Customer notification will be made by first class mail
using Daimler Trucks North America records to determine the customers affected.

December 18, 2019 Cummins notified all DTNA vehicles associated with this recall have been repaired
with the updated software on November 25, 2019 prior to any publications. Therefore, DTNA will not be
providing notifications related to this recall.
