Upper Hoist Cylinder Mounting Pin May Fail
A pin failure can allow the hoist to fall, increasing the risk of injury. In addition, the hoist cylinder can disconnect from the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2022-2023 DC (Legend) dump trucks. The upper hoist cylinder mounting pin may fail.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2024. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611. Autocar’s number for this recall is DC-2403.

Chronology :
January 25, 2023, Autocar personnel reported a failed hoist cylinder pin. May 10, 2023, Autocar personnel reported a second hoist cylinder pin failure and began investigation. May 2023 through March 20, 2024, Autocar personnel inspected units in the field, identified a third hoist cylinder pin failure and rechecked all assembly processes. April 4, 2024, the investigation information was presented to Autocar’s management team and out of an abundance of caution, Autocar decides to perform a voluntary safety recall for all affected units.

Description of Remedy Program : Autocar will voluntarily initiate an owner notification and recall of all
affected vehicles. Autocar will distribute to owners of affected vehicles an Owner Notification Letter, which will describe the defect and provide instructions for scheduling the inspection/repair of the vehicle at no cost to the vehicle’s owner. The owner letter will instruct vehicle owners who have paid to have this condition remedied prior to this campaign to seek reimbursement pursuant to Autocar’s General Reimbursement Plan, on file with the agency pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R 573.13.
