Chronology :
On 7/7/23 Grand Design was notified by Lippert Components of a defect on certain axles regarding improperly torqued U-bolts (Lippert recall #23E-050).
Between 7/21/23 and 11/1/23 Grand Design was made aware of 12 units that experienced spring slip issues while in transit to the dealership (before retail sale); all of which fell outside the scope of the previous recall. An investigation was opened to further understand the potential issue.
On 1/11/24 Grand Design was made aware of a retail sold unit built outside the recall population that experienced a spring slip.
In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that due to a miscommunication there was a possibility that U-bolts were over torqued on the Grand Design assembly line.
On 3/5/24 the findings of the investigation were reviewed by the Executive Product Safety Committee and a decision was made to launch a recall to cover the scope of units that may have been affected by the over torque issue.
Grand Design is not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of this issue.
