Slide Room Bolt May Puncture Tire and Cause Crash
A punctured tire can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024 Coachmen Catalina and Forest River Aurora travel trailers. The tire may contact the slide adjustment bolt and puncture the tire.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the slide adjustment bolt and install a shackle kit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 19, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-4995. Forest River’s number for this recall is 205-1735.

Concern:
The tire may contact the slide ram and/or slide head adjustment bolt.
Turn off LP Gas at LPG Tank(s). Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.
REMEDY:
STEP 1: USE A FLOOR JACK TO RAISE THE WHEELS OFF THE GROUND BY JACKING FROM THE MAIN BEAM;
STEP 2: PLACE JACK STANDS IN FRONT AND BEHIND THE TIRES
- 2 – JACK STANDS FOR OFF DOOR SIDE (PLACE UNDER MAIN BEAM)
- 2 – JACK STANDS FOR DOOR SIDE (PLACE UNDER MAIN BEAM)
STEP 3: IF NEEDED ONLY – CUT THE BRAKE WIRES (2) ON THE OFF DOOR SIDE;
- DO NOT CUT IF NOT NEEDED
- ENSURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH WIRING TO HOOK BACK UP USING GEL FILLED CONNECTORS;
STEP 4: LOCATE THE BOLTS;
- USE FLOOR JACKS IN THE CENTER OF THE AXLES TO BALANCE THE AXLES UPON, DO NOT LIFT USING THE AXLES. THIS IS ONLY TO KEEP THE AXLES IN THE LOCATION FOR EASE OF REMOVING THE AP KIT AND INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENT AP KIT;
- LOCATE SHACKLE BOLTS ATTACHING THE SPRINGS TO THE CHASSIS;
- LOCATE THE SHACKLE BOLTS ATTACHING THE STEEL SHACKLES TO THE AXLE AND EQUILIZER;
- REMOVE ALL SHACKLE BOLTS, NUTS AND EQUILIZER FROM THE CHASSIS AND AXLE;
- DISCARD OF THESE COMPONENTS AS THEY WILL NOT BE REUSED;
STEP 5: INSTALL THE NEW AP KIT AND EQUILIZER;
- MOUNT THE AXLES TO THE BOTTOM/LOWER HOLE OF THE AXLE HANGERS;
- ENSURE TO FIRMLY SEAT THE SHACLE BOLTS INTO THESE HOLES, USE A HAMMER TO SEAT THE BOLT HEADS AGAINST THE AXLE HANGERS;
- USE A BOX WRENCH AND PLACE ON THE BOLT HEAD AS A BACKER WRENCH AND HOLD FIRMLY WHILE YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT AGAINST THE AXLE HANGERS AND SHACKLE PLATES TO THE REPLACEMENT EQUILIZER;
- TIGHTEN UNTIL A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) SHACKLE BOLT THREADS SHOW PAST THE NUT AND THE NUT IS SEATED.
- FAILURE TO USE A WRENCH MAY STRIP THE SHACKLE BOLT. IF THIS HAPPENS, YOUR DEALERSHIP MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE SHACKLE BOLT(S).
STEP 6: RECONNECT BRAKE WIRES ONLY IF THEY WERE DISCONNECTED.
• HOOK BACK UP USING GEL FILLED CONNECTORS;
STEP 7: LOWER THE VEHICLE BACK ONTO THE TIRES;
STEP 8: TEST BRAKES TO ENSURE PROPER BRAKING FUNCTIONALITY;
STEP 9: CLAMP THE OFF DOOR SIDE REAR SLIDE ADJUSTMENT HEAD INTO PLACE WITH A C-CLAMP;
- REMOVE THE 6” SLIDE ADJUSTMENT BOLT THAT IS NEAR THE LEFT OFF DOOR SIDE REAR TIRE;
- INSTALL THE 2 ½” BOLT AND NUT AND MAINTAIN THE AJUSTMENT (IN PLACE OF THE BOLT REMOVED);
- REMOVE C-CLAMP;

This notice is sent in accordance with the requirements of the United States’ National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River has decided that a safety defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2024 Catalina 313RLTSLE & Aurora 32RLTS Travel Trailer Recreational Vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE:
The tire may contact the slide ram and/or slide head adjustment bolt.
EVALUATION OF RISK:
If the tire contacts the slide ram or slide head adjustment bolt, it may puncture. This condition may lead to loss of vehicle control, leading to a crash.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. A shorter slide adjustment bolt and a 1″ taller AP Kit will be installed, which lifts the vehicle past the minimum clearance needed for axle jounce. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy. You may also visit www.forestriverinc.com for dealer locations.
HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is 3.0 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.
WHAT IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY PAID FOR REPAIRS TO YOUR VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR CONDITION?
If you have already paid for a repair that is within the scope of this defect under recall, you still need to have this recall inspected and/or performed to ensure the correct parts and procedures were utilized.
Additionally, you may be eligible for a refund of previously paid repairs. Refunds will only be provided for within the scope of this defect under recall.

Chronology :
On January 30, 2024, the manufacturing plant discovered that the slide head adjustment bolt may interfere with the tires’ side wall. Additionally, it was discovered that the slide ram may also interfere with the jounce of the tire.
On February 1, 2024, the chassis supplier visited the manufacturing plant and replaced all of the slide head adjustment bolts with the appropriate length bolt.
On February 5, 2024, the manufacturing plant contacted their Corporate Standards Manager to review the concern. The Corporate Standards Manager then elevated the concern to Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”). OCC opened a research item the same day.
On February 9, 2024, Forest River’s Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall. A Stop Sale Notice will be issued immediately following the filing of this recall.

Forest River is recalling the defect model(s) to ensure the safety of our future retail consumers and your dealership. Forest River is issuing a Stop Sale Notice effective immediately.

The week of February 1, 2024, the chassis supplier began changing slide head adjustment bolt to the appropriate length bolt. The week of February 5, 2024, the manufacturing plant received a 1″ taller AP Kit to install, which lifts the vehicle past the minimum clearance needed for axle jounce.

• USE FLOOR JACKS IN THE CENTER OF THE AXLES TO BALANCE THE AXLES UPON, DO NOT LIFT USING THE AXLES. THIS IS ONLY TO KEEP THE AXLES IN THE LOCATION FOR EASE OF REMOVING THE AP KIT AND INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENT AP KIT;
• LOCATE SHACKLE BOLTS ATTACHING THE SPRINGS TO THE CHASSIS;
• LOCATE THE SHACKLE BOLTS ATTACHING THE STEEL SHACKLES TO THE AXLE AND EQUILIZER;
• REMOVE ALL SHACKLE BOLTS, NUTS AND EQUILIZER FROM THE CHASSIS AND AXLE;
• DISCARD OF THESE COMPONENTS AS THEY WILL NOT BE REUSED;
STEP 5: INSTALL THE NEW AP KIT AND EQUILIZER;
• MOUNT THE AXLES TO THE BOTTOM/LOWER HOLE OF THE AXLE HANGERS;
• ENSURE TO FIRMLY SEAT THE SHACLE BOLTS INTO THESE HOLES, USE A HAMMER TO SEAT THE BOLT HEADS AGAINST THE AXLE HANGERS;
• USE A BOX WRENCH AND PLACE ON THE BOLT HEAD AS A BACKER WRENCH AND HOLD FIRMLY WHILE YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT AGAINST THE AXLE HANGERS AND SHACKLE PLATES TO THE REPLACEMENT EQUILIZER;
• TIGHTEN UNTIL A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) SHACKLE BOLT THREADS SHOW PAST THE NUT AND THE NUT IS SEATED.
• FAILURE TO USE A WRENCH MAY STRIP THE SHACKLE BOLT. IF THIS HAPPENS, YOUR DEALERSHIP MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE SHACKLE BOLT(S).
STEP 6: RECONNECT BRAKE WIRES ONLY IF THEY WERE DISCONNECTED.
• HOOK BACK UP USING GEL FILLED CONNECTORS;
STEP 7: LOWER THE VEHICLE BACK ONTO THE TIRES;
STEP 8: TEST BRAKES TO ENSURE PROPER BRAKING FUNCTIONALITY;
STEP 9: CLAMP THE OFF DOOR SIDE REAR SLIDE ADJUSTMENT HEAD INTO PLACE WITH A C-CLAMP;
• REMOVE THE 6” SLIDE ADJUSTMENT BOLT THAT IS NEAR THE LEFT OFF DOOR SIDE REAR TIRE;
• INSTALL THE 2 ½” BOLT AND NUT AND MAINTAIN THE AJUSTMENT (IN PLACE OF THE BOLT REMOVED);
• REMOVE C-CLAMP;

Dear Forest River Customer:
This notice is sent in accordance with the requirements of the United States’ National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River has decided that a safety defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2024 Catalina 313RLTSLE & Aurora 32RLTS Travel Trailer Recreational Vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE:
The tire may contact the slide ram and/or slide head adjustment bolt.
EVALUATION OF RISK:
If the tire contacts the slide ram or slide head adjustment bolt, it may puncture. This condition may lead to loss of vehicle control, leading to a crash.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. A shorter slide adjustment bolt and a 1″ taller AP Kit will be installed, which lifts the vehicle past the minimum clearance needed for axle jounce. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy. You may also visit www.forestriverinc.com for dealer locations.
HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is 3.0 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.
WHAT IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY PAID FOR REPAIRS TO YOUR VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR CONDITION?
If you have already paid for a repair that is within the scope of this defect under recall, you still need to have this recall inspected and/or performed to ensure the correct parts and procedures were utilized.
Additionally, you may be eligible for a refund of previously paid repairs. Refunds will only be provided for within the scope of this defect under recall.
