Summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024 MD6 and MD7 vehicles. The steering gear fasteners may not be properly tightened.
Remedy
Dealers will tighten the steering gear fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 23, 2023. Owners may contact Mack’s customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack’s number for this recall is SC449.

Description
Certain 2024 MD6 and MD7 model vehicles were manufactured from June 23, 2023 to July 21, 2023 when improperly calibrated torque tooling was in use. Under-torqued fasteners can result in loss of clamp load, which may affect the steering and potentially cause loss of vehicle control.
There have been no field reports, warranty claims or customer complaints associated with this issue.
The remedy will be to tighten the steering gear fasteners to specification.

Dealer Responsibilities
- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

- Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal September 1, 2023.
- Owner notification letters will be released on or before October 23, 2023.
- Repair Instruction will be released once they are available.

August 15 2023 Mack Manufacturing Engineering reports to Product Safety Working Group that Mack Medium Duty assembly plant has reported that the have a potential under torque situation on steering gear fasteners, an investigation is opened at that time.
August 21, 2023 Product Safety Working Group meets and evaluates the investigation results and recommends that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect.
August 25, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists.
August 30, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA.
There have been no field reports, warranty claims or customer complaints associated with this issue.

August 25, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists. August 30, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA.
