Corrosion on Remote Control Circuit Board

Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Continental Cargo, 2019-2022 Cargo Mate, and 2020 Cross Bow cargo trailers, equipped with certain Warn Winches with a wireless handheld remote. Water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch and cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally.
Remedy
Forest River will work with Warn Industries, Inc. to provide owners instructions on how to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack from the remote. If corrosion or water intrusion is found when removing the battery pack owners should stop using the remote and contact WARN customer service for a replacement remote, free of charge. Once new parts are available, WARN will make a replacement water resistant remote available, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 6, 2023. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8600. Forest River’s number for this recall is 51-1608.

Dear Valued Customers,
Warn Industries has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the handheld remote- control device that was sold with WARN VR EVO winches. A small number of remotes which have been exposed to or submerged in water have exhibited failures that can result in unintended winch operation. Only the remote is subject to this recall notice, the winch is not affected. This notice only applies to product sold and used in the USA.
Products affected: Remotes shipped with all EVO winch models manufactured between June 3, 2019 to November 29, 2022.

What should you do?
This defect relates only to the handheld remote-control device sold with the winches listed above.
We previously sent a “Stop Ship” notice to our direct distributors which you may have received a copy of.
At this time, we ask that you please take the following actions regarding the items listed above.
- Stop any further sales if you have not already done so.
- We want to take care of you. Please contact us on this website warn.com/remote-recall-info- customers which we have set up for use by Dealers and Resellers. Let us know how many winches you have in stock, and we will contact you with details about the rework.
- Hold your inventory pending further information from Warn Industries regarding when new remotes will be available and how we will arrange to rework your unsold inventory with new remotes and related consumer information.
- Distribute the attached Consumer Safety Recall Notice, (RDCONL-22E101-3032), to any of your customers who have purchased the affected items and inform them to contact Warn directly on warn.com/vr–evo–remote–info.
What are we doing?
Warn Industries is taking the following steps regarding the affected products:
- All unsold products will need to be reworked by replacing the existing remote with a new water- resistant “corded-only” remote, applying a label to the product informing the consumer that the wireless function is not included, and inserting instructions notifying the consumer how they can obtain a $100 coupon valid toward the purchase of a new wireless remote product when available on warn.com.
- Affected items are removed from Warn’s UMP pricing policy.
- Consumer inquiries will be addressed directly by Warn according to the process outlined in the Consumer Safety Recall Notice. We encourage you to direct consumers and winch owners to go to warn.com/vr-evo-remote-info where they can also find a copy of the attached Consumer Safety Recall Notice for instructions regarding their current remote, replacement product, and a redeemable coupon directly from Warn.

WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The remote control for the winch could get wet and result in water ingress and corrosion inside the remote control. This condition could lead to inadvertent activation and unexpected movement of the winch. It was determined that this condition only affects remote controls with wireless capability that are not waterproof.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the winch operates unexpectedly, it would increase the risk of injury.
WHAT IS WARN INDUSTRIES GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships and Owners of the recall. Warn Industries, Inc. will provide, at no cost to you, the remedy as outlined in included Warn Recall Notification. As per Recall 22E101, Warn Industries will replace your existing VR EVO remote with a “corded only” remote if any internal corrosion is observed when removing the battery pack.

Chronology :
On March 13, 2023, Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) was notified by NHTSA of Warn Industries recall 22E101. According to NHTSA, Forest River was named as a company that may have purchased suspected affected winches. OCC opened a research item the same day.
On March 15, 2023, OCC identified the suspect vehicles with the affected winches.

Dear Valued Customers,
Warn Industries has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the handheld remote-
control device that was sold with WARN VR EVO winches. A small number of remotes which have been exposed to or submerged in water have exhibited failures that can result in unintended winch operation. Only the remote is subject to this recall notice, the winch is not affected.
This notice only applies to product sold and used in the USA.
Products affected: Remotes shipped with all EVO winch models manufactured between June 3, 2019 to
November 29, 2022.

What should you do?
This defect relates only to the handheld remote-control device sold with the winches listed above.
We previously sent a “Stop Ship” notice to our direct distributors which you may have received a copy of. At this time, we ask that you please take the following actions regarding the items listed above.

We want to take care of you. Please contact us on this website www.warn.com/remote-recall-info- customers which we have set up for use by Dealers and Resellers. Let us know how many winches you have in stock, and we will contact you with details about the rework.
Hold your inventory pending further information from Warn Industries regarding when new remotes will be available and how we will arrange to rework your unsold inventory with new remotes and related consumer information.

customers who have purchased the affected items and inform them to contact Warn directly on www.warn.com/vr-evo-remote-info.
What are we doing?
Warn Industries is taking the following steps regarding the affected products:

All unsold products will need to be reworked by replacing the existing remote with a new water-
resistant “corded-only” remote, applying a label to the product informing the consumer that the wireless function is not included, and inserting instructions notifying the consumer how they can obtain a $100 coupon valid toward the purchase of a new wireless remote product when available on www.warn.com.
Affected items are removed from Warn’s UMP pricing policy.
Consumer inquiries will be addressed directly by Warn according to the process outlined in the Consumer Safety Recall Notice. We encourage you to direct consumers and winch owners to go to www.warn.com/vr-evo-remote-info where they can also find a copy of the attached Consumer Safety Recall Notice for instructions regarding their current remote, replacement product, and a redeemable coupon directly from Warn.

WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The remote control for the winch could get wet and result in water ingress and corrosion inside the remote control. This condition could lead to inadvertent activation and unexpected movement of the winch. It was determined that this condition only affects remote controls with wireless capability that are not waterproof.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the winch operates unexpectedly, it would increase the risk of injury.
WHAT IS WARN INDUSTRIES GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships and Owners of the recall. Warn Industries, Inc. will provide, at no cost to you, the remedy as outlined in included Warn Recall Notification. As per Recall 22E101, Warn Industries will replace your existing VR EVO remote with a “corded only” remote if any internal corrosion is observed when removing the battery pack.

suspected VIN numbers to our third-party vendor that is licensed to pull data on the current owner of the vehicles (as needed) once a formal NHTSA I.D. is provided. Forest River intends on pushing the mailing out as soon as NHTSA provides any correction(s) and an Acknowledgement Letter.
