Quality Engineering at McLaren
Automotive have released a new
software platform for the 12C.
The most noticeable customer benefits of this software are:
o Increase in engine power to 625PS
o Programmable Intake Sound Generator (ISG)
o Headlights linked to rain sensor (automatic)
o Easy-exit seat return via the instrument cluster (electric seats
only)
o Meridian sound system equaliser settings (Meridian Surround
Sound)
o Overall improved software updates throughout the vehicle
o Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation functionality
PROCEDURE :
It is necessary to update the software on all affected vehicles within
your Aftersales car parc, both when carrying out Pre-Delivery
Inspections (PDI) and at the next service centre visit

Care point: The Platform 9.0 „Owner Manual Supplement‟ (1) must be placed in the vehicle once the
campaign has been carried out. This only applies to vehicles that have not had 11 M 039 “Vehicle software
platform update to 9.0” carried out previously. The customer must also be informed of the new driver /
passenger door opening functionality.
Care point: The Owner‟ Manual Supplement‟ (1) includes information relating to the new IEE OCS system
st
functionality. This system is not fitted to vehicles built prior to 31 May 2012. Customers should refer to their
main Owner‟ Manual should they require information relating to the OCS system on their vehicle.

Care point: A ‘customer certificate‟ will be sent directly to the dealers.The Vehicle Identification Number
must be entered into the document and supplied to the customer.
Care point: A EU compliance document will be supplied to you by your Regional Aftersales Manager (if
applicable), this document must also be presented to the customer.

Care point: The ‘Owner‟ Manual Supplement‟(2) includes information relating to the 2013 Model Year
system functionality.The IRIS User Guide (3) includes information relating to functional operation for the
Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation that has been added to customer vehicles with this platform
update.
Care point: The ‘Owner‟ Manual Supplement‟ (2) and IRIS User Guide (3) must be placed in the vehicle
along with the customer certificate for all markets and the compliance document for all EU vehicles. These
manuals and customer certificates will be sent directly to dealers.

Care point: The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) update is only required on vehicles that have not had
campaign 11 M 034 or 11 M 036 previously carried out.
Care point: The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Electronic Park Brake (EPB) update is only required
on vehicles that have not had campaign 11 M 039 previously carried out.
REMOVAL:
1. Please refer to AA-RM-02A02-03-004 - Remove/Install luggage bin – rear.
Care point: In order to avoid personal injury and damage to the vehicle, do not connect the positive terminal
(+) to the negative terminal (-). Ensure that the connections are secure. Do not place any metal objects near
the battery when charging and do not place the Deutronic battery charger directly onto the battery unit.
2. Keep the battery on charge, using a Deutronic battery charger during the software downloading
procedure.
Care point: Both the driver and passenger windows must be in the fully open position during software
downloads.
Care point: All software downloads require the vehicle to be in ignition state 5.
Care point: During the software download process, it is normal for the instrument cluster displays to
extinguish temporarily.

Care point: The key must be positioned in the driver‟s seat front pocket, picture below (1).

3. Check OBD connector pins 4, 5, 6, 14 and 16, as highlighted below are secure. Loose pins can cause
module software download errors. If any of the pins are found to be loose these should be closed up
before module reprogramming is carried out (2).

SCUG SOFTWARE Update:
1. Connect the Mclaren Diagnostic System (MDS) to the vehicle.
2. Proceed to the Diagnostic Toolbox (1), select SCUG (2), then Reprogramming (3), select the software
level 11M1290CP.06 (4), then proceed to the software download by selecting the tick button (5), followed
by the arrow button (6). Select „YES‟ to initiate programming.

IC SOFTWARE update:
3. Select IC_02 (1), then Reprogramming (2), select the software level 11M1180CP.25 (3), then proceed to
the software download by selecting the tick button (4), followed by the arrow button (5). Select „YES‟ to
initiate programming.

4. Once the download is successful select the chassis button (6) to re-enter the scan now page. It is
necessary to re-scan the vehicle and IC_03 will now be displayed (7).

5. Once the vehicle has been re-scanned proceed to the Home screen and select the Diagnostic Toolbox
(8), select IC_03 (9), select coding section (10), select Write code string (11). Click OK to continue (12).

Care point: The Electronic Park Brake (EPB) update is only required on vehicles that have not had
campaign 11 M 039 previously carried out. Proceed to step 10 if not required.
8. Select EPB (1), then Reprogramming (2), select the software variant applicable (3), proceed to the
software download by selecting the tick button (4), then arrow button to proceed (5). Select „YES‟ to
initiate programming.

15. When the software download has been successfully completed, programming will force a sleep cycle to
occur.

16. After one minute, press the unlock button on the key and then establish the vehicle into ignition state 5
before following the next steps.
17. Select Sequences (6), then Programme VIN (7) then select the arrow button to proceed (8). The
programme VIN procedure will force a sleep cycle to occur after the programming is complete.

22. After the HVAC has been updated, the HVAC display panel may show the CAL symbol while the system
performs a self calibration. When completed, the CAL symbol will disappear from the display.
