SITUATION :

Quality Engineering at McLaren Automotive have released a diversity
tuner kit to improve radio reception.

PROCEDURE :

Please follow the installation instructions outlined in this document.

Care Point: It is necessary that the following campaigns listed are carried out before 11 M 045 “Diversity Tuner
Retrofit (including bumper antenna)”.
o

11 A 032 “Replacement of both door latches” or 11 A 033 “Replacement Left-Hand door latch” or 11 A 034
“Replacement Right-Hand door latch”.

REMOVAL:
1.

Please refer to AA-RM-02A02-03-002 - Remove/install wheel arch liner – Front (RHS only).

2.

Please refer to AA-RM-05M01-01-001 - Disconnect/connect battery ground line.

3.

Please refer to AA-RM-02A02-03-003 - Remove/install luggage bin – Front

4.

Please refer to AA-RM-02A04-03-001 - Remove/install fender cover – Inner (RHS only).

5.

Please refer to AA-RM-06N06-01-006 - Remove/install footrest – Passenger.

6.

Please refer to AA-RM-05M04-01-005 - Remove/install head unit.

InstruCtions:
The bumper antenna will be located on the inner side of the front bumper (1) between the two front floor supports (1).

Clean the bumper mounting face (2) ensuring the surface is dry and free of dust, oil and other contaminants.

Care Point: The adhesion promoter is to be shaken well before use and applied evenly to the surface.

Apply adhesion promoter 3M Scotchmount adhesion promoter 4298UV to the mounting face (2) and allow 5
minutes before fitting the bumper antenna.

Fit the bumper antenna 11M2488CP to the bumper (3).

Care Point: Ensure that the bumper antenna is secured adequately by the self adhesive pads.

Remove the existing three edge cable ties (4) that hold the bumper harness in place.

Care Point: Ensure that the washer hose won’t be damaged while fitting the edge clips.

5.

Move the harness from its original position further up and secure it to the brackets that hold the washer hose
using three edge cable ties 00RG024 (5). This is to avoid any signal interference that the existing bumper
harness might cause.

Remove the existing front floor support bolt and secure the ground eyelet of the bumper antenna using the same
bolt (6).

Completely encapsulate the ground point and the bolt using Rocol Z30 wax oil 11Q0532CP.

Secure the bumper antenna harness to the existing body harness (7) at the four marked tape points using cable
ties 00RL012.

9.

Connect the bumper antenna harness to the extension link lead 11M2458CP (8) and secure both connectors
using a cable tie 00RL012 to the body harness (9).

Care Point: Ensure that the joint is seated under the body harness (10) otherwise there is a potential risk of damage
when fitting the luggage bin.

10. Continue to secure the extension link lead to the existing body harness at the six marked tape points using cable
ties 00RL012 (11)(12)(13).

11. Secure the extension link lead to the front fender outrigger using the existing edge clips of the lead (14).

12. Secure the extension link lead to the body structure (15).

Care Point: Always wear safety glasses to complete the next step.
Care Point: Ensure the area around the rocker panel is protected/covered.

13. With the use of a suitable grinder tool, remove some of the glue material (approximately 7-10mm deep) along the
edges of the rocker panel (16). This is to create a cavity where the extension link lead will be fitted.

Care Point: It is not necessary to remove the wheel arch liner cover panel to complete steps 14 to 16.

14. Remove the bolts of the wheel arch liner cover panel (17).

15. Slightly pull out the wheel arch liner cover panel and route the extension link lead behind the panel (18).
Care Point: Ensure that the lead is located below the top bolt of the panel (19).

16. Route the extension link lead to the rocker panel (20) and ensure that the lead is located inside the
cavity that has been created (21).

17. Feed the extension link lead inside the cabin and behind the facia (22).
Care Point: Ensure that the lead is not visible from inside the cabin.

18. Route the extension link lead behind the facia (23).

19. Secure the extension link lead to the cross beam (24).

20. Continue to route the extension link lead towards the HVAC distribution unit (25).

21. Secure the extension link lead to the HVAC distribution unit (26).
Care Point: Do not secure any other edge clips at this stage; the excess harness is required to allow
assembly to the head unit assembly.

22. Install the IRIS head unit (27) to the new mounting bracket 11M2487CP (28) using the existing M5
bolts.
Care Point: Different levels of tuner hardware will be supplied to dealers. Early level tuners will require
software installation, later level tuners do not. The different level of tuners can be seen in the pictures below
and it should be noted which level was fitted during installation.

23. Install the tuner (29) to the bracket using four M5 bolts 00RA165.
Care Point: Before installing the amplifier apply felt tape between the bracket and the amplifier (30).
24. Install the amplifier 11M0454CP (31) to the bracket using M6 screw 00RA142.
Care Point: The parking sensor speaker should also be swapped to the new bracket.

25. Connect the Amp-Tuner harness 11M2459CP from the tuner to the amplifier (32).
Care Point: The harness should be connected to the RADIO input of the amplifier.

26. Connect the harness 11M2465CP to the tuner (33) and route the harness to the back of the bracket.
Use the existing edge clips to secure the harness to the bracket (34).

27. Connect the power harness 11M2456CP to the tuner (35) and secure the harness to the bracket using
the edge clips (36). The other end of the harness will be connected to the SCUG at step 41 of this
document.
28. Connect the link harness 11M2403CP from the IRIS head unit to the tuner (37).
Care Point: Ensure that link harness 11M2403CP loops around harness 11M2465CP.

29. The sub assembly is now ready to be fitted back to the vehicle.
30. The edge clip attached to PDC speaker connector (38), should be moved from the right hand side of the
tunnel to the left hand side (39).

31. Fit the complete sub assembly back to the vehicle but do not install any of the bolts. This will allow free
movement of the assembly to connect harnesses into the units.
32. Connect the main IRIS harness 11M1226CP to the tuner (40). Ensure that the harness is crimped to the bracket
(41).

33. Connect the body harness RJ45 to the IRIS head unit (42).

34. Connect the body harness WLAN to the IRIS head unit (43).

35. Connect the body harness to the IRIS head unit as per normal (44) (45) apart from the FM1 connector (black)
(46). FM1 connector must be connected to the new harness 11M2465CP (47).

36. Connect the extension link lead 11M2458CP (48) to the amplifier (49). Ensure that the harness is crimped to the
bracket (50).
37. Secure the ground eyelet of the harness to the bracket using screw M6 00RA142 (51).
Care Point: Ensure that the lead passes through the link harness 11M2403CP (52).

38. Bolt the complete assembly to the vehicle.
39. Connect the PDC speaker and secure the connector with the edge clip to the tunnel (53).

40. Secure the remaining edge clips of extension link lead 11M2458CP (54).

41. The two pins of harness 11M2456CP should now be connected to the SCUG module.
42. Disconnect the SCUG 26-way connector.
43. Open the terminal retention locks (55) and open the cover of the connector.
44. Insert the brown KL31 ground cable into the connector PIN1 (56).
45. Insert the red KL30 power cable into the connector PIN13 (57).
46. Reconnect the SCUG 26-way connector.

Installation
Care Point: Do not re-assemble the interior trims of the vehicle until the USB software update (part of 11 M 041 or 11
M 042 or 11 M 043 “Vehicle software platform update to 10”) has been completed successfully.
Care Point: It is necessary that the right hand side wheel arch liner and wheel are not refitted at this point if the
vehicle is affected by 11 B 005 “Replacement of displacement sensors brackets and drop link rods”.
1.

Install components in reverse order.
