INCIDENT: Pressed brakes but car accelerated. STORY: I reversed out of a parking spot, turning so I could go to the right in parking lot. Put the car in drive and proceeded driving veering right in the parking lot. I pressed brake within 5 seconds of that but the accelerated instead, so I released the brake, looked down to double check I wasn't losing my mind and confirmed, I was pushing the break when it accelerated, pressed it again but much lighter this time and it did accelerated again as I veered to the right where there were no cars parked. I parked, turned off the car and then restarted it. I was not able to recreate the incident but also, no idea why it happened and scary to think what would have happened if I was on the highway or busy road. There were no lights/alerts that showed up when it happened. I plant to take it to dealership to check. And I have read other reports of owners having the same issue with this car.

The contact owned a 2016 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that while at a complete stop with her foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated without warning and crashed into a fire hydrant. While the foot was still on the brake pedal, the vehicle continued to accelerate and struck a street sign. The vehicle continued to accelerate across the street and accelerated up a hill. The vehicle headed straight towards a home and crashed into the home, which caused the vehicle to stop. The air bags deployed upon impact, with white smoke coming from the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle without severe injury. Due to a setting on her iPhone, the contact's family members and Police were alerted immediately that there was a crash. The crash into the residence caused a pipe inside the home to burst and flooded outside the home. The crash caused damage to the home, the street sign, and the fire hydrant. Authorities arrived at the scene, and the contact’s vital signs were checked. The contact sustained a severe bruise to the left shin and severe mental anguish. The contact was transported to a hospital and was given an MRI; no further injuries were discovered. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and declared a total loss. A Police report was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Summary
While driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe at approximately 70 mph in Hybrid mode the vehicle suddenly and without warning experienced a complete loss of propulsion while I was traveling in traffic. The vehicle would no longer respond normally to the accelerator and I was unable to maintain speed. The Drive (D) indicator began flashing and multiple warning lights and messages appeared on the instrument cluster. I specifically remember the red battery/charging-system warning being illuminated. The dashboard also displayed a warning relating to the power/charging system and a message instructing me to shift or put the vehicle into Park. I had to get the vehicle safely out of moving traffic. This was extremely frightening because the loss of propulsion occurred suddenly at highway speed and could have resulted in a serious collision. This vehicle has previously been brought to an authorized Jeep dealership multiple times for recalls/service involving the battery/electrical/12-volt system. On a previous occasion, the vehicle also failed to start while parked in my garage. After this highway incident occurred and after I was eventually able to get the vehicle operating again, my husband disconnected the 12-volt battery in an attempt to perform a hard reset. The battery was disconnected AFTER the loss-of-propulsion event and therefore did not precede the highway failure. The vehicle is currently at an authorized Jeep dealership for diagnosis. I have asked the dealership to document the complete loss of propulsion, retrieve any available stored, pending, history or permanent diagnostic trouble codes, and determine the cause of the failure. I am reporting this incident because I am very concerned that an electrical, hybrid, battery, charging or powertrain defect may cause the vehicle to suddenly lose motive power again while being driven. A sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed presents a serious safety risk to the occupants of this vehicle and to other motorists.

Summary
Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT, Size LT275/65/ R20 Load Range E DOT #1RJ0TJB1V2322 While driving on the highway (approx. 65-70 MPH) the center tread of the rear driver-side tired suddenly and completely delaminated/separated from the casing without warning. The only warning was a second of vibrations right before the failure. The tire-maintained inflation pressure during and after the tread separated, proving the structural integrity of the casing waws intact and that this was not caused by a puncture, blowout or road hazard. It was a catastrophic chemical adhesion bond failure between the tread rubber and the steel belt package. My safety and the safety of other motorists on the highway were put at extreme risk. When the steel-belted tread separated at high speed, it acted as a spinning whip, causing a violent vibration and severe handling instability that nearly caused a loss of vehicle control. The flailing treat slapped the vehicle body repeaedly before ripping completely free, causing extensive structural and cosmetic damage to the truck. It tore off the fender flares entirel, severely gouged and dented the painted metal tailgate, broke the passenger-side taillight, damaging the passenger cab door. The debris shedding onto the highway created an immediate, severe hazard for vehicle traveling behind me. The vehilve and the failed tire casing are currently preserved and available for immediate inspection. A local tire service center examined the tire and confirmed the structural casing was uncompromised and holding air, pointing heavily to an internal factory/ manufacturing defect. We also have pictures of the truck, along with pictures of the tire still on the rim.
