Summary
The vehicle suffered a sudden, severe loss of power while driving, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly. This created an immediate hazard to myself and other motorists on the road, as I was forced to navigate a dead vehicle out of active traffic without power steering or power braking assist. Prior to the total failure, the engine exhibited severe mechanical knocking, loss of acceleration, and high oil consumption without any visible external oil leaks. This engine failure is a direct result of the manufacturing defect detailed in NHTSA Safety Recall 203 (NHTSA Campaign 21V301000) concerning improperly heat-treated piston oil rings that cause severe cylinder scuffing and engine stall. Although the software update (Campaign 974) was previously completed on this VIN, the physical defect was never mechanically repaired. The software update failed to prevent the physical, defectively manufactured components from destroying the engine. Hyundai is refusing to honor the safety campaign and replace the failed engine because the recall database incorrectly lists the recall status as "completed."

Summary
I had just gotten off work around 730 or 745 ish. Drove my truck with the windows down , a few miles down the street to this strip mall / store area i frequent . Got out of the truck went in the store and other establishment . Was inside for maybe 5 mins . The truck was certainly turned off, windows up. When i came back out to the truck i opened the door and it was full of smoke and the armrest / center storage bin was molten and so hot it had melted the two pieces . I had a couple bottles of water in the truck and was able to put it out but had burned my left hand in the process . Once i was sure it was extinguished i moved it away from parked cars to an empty lot to prevent anothe possible fire from damaging other vehicles . I then had it towed to Bob Caldwell on Morse road in Columbus Ohio. This was on Saturday july 11th . Still no adjuster put to the vehicle since filing my insurance claim. It’s Thursday July 16th now .

The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that the electrical wires underneath the driver's side front seat were exposed, and the cover was in the floorboard. Additionally, the dashboard panel on the front passenger's side had detached and was hanging down. The failures occurred two weeks after the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V595000 (Electrical System) was performed. The dealer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

Summary
Engine seized up just after completing a pass on 2 lane road with oncoming traffic approaching Truck started shaking, warning lights illuminated and I lost all ability to accelerate. I was only able to crest a slight incline and safely get to the shoulder of the road due to momentum gained during passing. Toyota states hybrid models have locomotive ability after engine seizing, this is clearly not true. Had the seizing occurred while passing, it would have likely resulted in a head on collision. Dealer inspection confirmed engine seizing and noted metal shavings were observed on the dipstick.
