I am filing a formal complaint regarding General Motors' handling of a critical vehicle component that has left my vehicle and many others in an unsafe condition. For more than over a one month, I have been waiting for a replacement gear shift module that is currently on backorder. During this time, I have learned that numerous General Motors customers are experiencing the same issue and are also waiting for this part to become available. My primary concern is that this appears to be more than an isolated parts shortage. If so many vehicles require replacement of the same safety-related component, General Motors should be evaluating whether this issue warrants a safety recall or, at a minimum, notifying affected customers of the potential risks. The gear shift module is a critical component that affects the safe operation of a vehicle. Allowing customers to continue driving vehicles that may have a defective gear shift module without providing a safety notification or timely repair raises serious concerns regarding public safety. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter and encourage General Motors to: Explain the reason for the extended backorder of this critical component. Provide customers with a reasonable timeline for obtaining replacement parts. Determine whether this issue should be addressed through a formal safety recall or customer safety notification. Offer appropriate assistance to customers whose vehicles have been affected by this prolonged delay. Customers should not be expected to operate vehicles that may present a potential safety risk while waiting indefinitely for a critical replacement part.

I am reporting a sudden, complete failure of the vehicle braking system. I was operating a black 2026 Buick Enclave (an Enterprise rental car which my husband, [XXX], rented from the Tucson International Airport fleet, Vehicle Fleet #XXX) with my two children in the backseat. We were traveling at the posted speed limit of 45 mph in the fast lane on [XXX], heading toward Costco. Without warning, the braking system completely malfunctioned. Half a dozen red warning lights illuminated and alarmed on the dashboard, including the primary "BRAKE" indicator. When I pressed the brake pedal, it completely stopped working and went dead. The electronic parking brake failed to engage as well. Fortunately, the vehicle immediately ahead of me cleared a green light at the intersection, allowing me to coast through before the light turned red. I safely steered across the slow lane onto the shoulder and pressed "Park," but the vehicle continued to roll. The vehicle only came to a complete stop when I turned the engine ignition completely off. This vehicle has an Iowa license plate (PYR149) and failed at around 28,128 miles. This matches the exact profile of the ongoing master brake cylinder cartridge seal failures documented in active federal litigation against General Motors (such as XXX v. General Motors LLC). This defect poses an immediate public safety risk across GM's 2025-2026 shared-platform vehicles (Enclave, Traverse, Acadia, Colorado, Canyon) and needs to be formally investigated for a 2026 fleet safety recall. My wife and another family member have both experienced issues where the buckle will sometimes not latch securely, and at other times it is difficult to release. Vehicle Safety Complaint – Automatic Sliding Door Injury to Child To the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe may be a serious safety defect involving the automatic sliding door on my Honda vehicle. On June 9 at approximately 5:00 p.m., while the vehicle was parked in a residential driveway, the automatic sliding door severely injured my [XXX] son. He had unbuckled himself from his car seat and slid out of the vehicle as the automatic sliding door was closing. I witnessed the entire incident. As the door closed, his entire hand, as well as the skin on his leg, became trapped in the door. The automatic sliding door did not stop or reverse after encountering his hand and leg. Because the door is automatic, I was unable to immediately release him and had to wait for it to reopen before I could free him. Those moments felt incredibly long while my son was trapped and screaming in pain. When I was finally able to remove him from the door, his hand was severely injured, visibly deformed, and had significant swelling almost immediately after the incident. To my knowledge, nothing obstructed the normal operation of the door, and the automatic sliding door was being used in its normal operating mode. The fact that the door did not stop or reverse after trapping my son's hand is the primary reason I am submitting this complaint. Immediately after the accident, I took my son to an urgent care facility. The providers there instructed us to seek immediate evaluation by a pediatric orthopedic specialist, and we went directly to a pediatric orthopedist. He was diagnosed with a broken hand. This injury has resulted in medical expenses, significant emotional trauma for our family, and a complete loss of confidence in the safety of this vehicle.
