Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Impression Fifth Wheel Recreational Vehicles. The center identification light on the rear of the vehicle was incorrectly installed at a higher position than the other lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will reposition the center top lamp, and a reflector will be installed in place of the center lamp, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 21, 2021. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service Phone Number 1-574-296-2084. Forest River’s number for this recall is 83-1441.

Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.

INSPECTION:
STEP 1: INSPECT THE REAR OF THE UNIT – ARE THE REAR CENTER INDICATOR LAMPS IN A HORIZONTAL ROW AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1 OR ARE THEY MISALIGNED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2;
➢ IF THE LAMPS ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF FIGURE 1 – CLAIM THE INSPECTION CODE AND RELEASE THE UNIT AS NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED. TAKE A PHOTO AND SUBMIT WITH THE INSPECTION CLAIM OF THE INDICATION LAMPS.
➢ IF THE LAMPS ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF FIGURE 2 – CONTINUE ONTO THE SECTION LABELED “REMEDY” – DO NOT CLAIM THE INSPECTION CODE. TAKE A PHOTO OF THE LAMPS PRIOR TO MAKING ANY REMEDY. ONCE THE REMEDY IS COMPLETE, TAKE A PHOTO OF THE REMEDY AND SUBMIT BOTH PHOTOS WITH THE REPAIR CODE.
REMEDY:
STEP 1: REMOVE THE CENTER TOP LAMP FROM THE REAR WALL. EXPOSE THE WIRING AS IT IS CONNECTED TO THE HARNESS (TAKE A PHOTO FOR HOOKUP PURPOSES LATER);
STEP 2: ALIGN THE CENTER LAMP HORIZONTALLY BETWEEN LIGHT “A” AND “C” AND DRILL A NEW HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE AND IN THE MIDDLE OF LIGHTS “A” AND “C”;
STEP 3: EXPOSE THE CLEARANCE LAMP WIRES IN THE REAR WALL THROUGH THE NEW HOLE AND CONNECT THE CENTER INDICATOR LAMP BACK TO THE HARNESS, MATCHING THE COLORS FROM STEP 1 (PHOTO TAKEN);
STEP 4: ATTACH THE RED REFLECTOR TO THE REAR WALL, COVERING THE “OLD” EXPOSED HOLE WHICH THE CENTER INDICATOR LAMP LEFT OPEN BEFORE IT WAS MOVED;;
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River – Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) has decided that a noncompliance, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2021-2022 Impression Fifth Wheel recreational vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment”. Additionally, this non-compliance fails to meet the requirements of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations; Part 108 “Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment”. This is to inform you that your vehicle may be non-compliant with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations and that the non-compliance could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The three identification lamps in the center of the vehicles’ rear wall are not on the same height.
According to 571.108, Table I-b: “On the rear, at the same height, as close as practicable to the vertical centerline, with lamp centers spaced not less than 6 inches or more than 12 inches apart”.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
This is a violation of 571.108 Table I-b, “Additional Lamps Required on all Trailers 2032 MM or More in Overall Width”.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River has notified dealerships of this recall, have provided them with remedy instructions, the center top lamp will be moved down to form a straight line, and a reflector will be installed in place of the center lamp. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is .42 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

During a routine inspection performed at Forest River’s PDI Plant, this condition was discovered on November 15, 2021.
On November 16, 2021, Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance was notified of the non-compliance.
On November 19, 2021, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.
1/3/2022 Amended recall to reflect the safety risk, remedy and component information.

Forest River – Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) has decided that a non-compliance exists in certain 2021-2022 Impression Fifth Wheel recreational vehicles. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment”. Additionally, this non-compliance fails to meet the requirements of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations; Part 108 “Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment”. Forest River is recalling the defect model(s) to ensure the safety of our future retail consumers and your dealership.
