NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V428

Manufacturer Keystone RV Company

Components ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Number of Units Affected 594

Summary

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Keystone Fuzion (models 357, 369, 373, 379, 419, 424, 427, 429 and 430) and Impact (models 26V, 28V, 29V, 311, 317, 330, 343, 359, 367 and 415) toy hauler travel trailers. The generator transfer switch may be incorrectly wired with the transfer switch “Line” wiring (shore cord) and “Load” wiring (power center wiring) reversed, allowing the generator power to energize the shore power connection.

Remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will run the generator to check for the proper power output, correcting the wiring as necessary, free of charge. The recall began August 27, 2020. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 20-382. Note: If there is no power inside the unit while the generator is running, owners are instructed to discontinue using the generator until the recall remedy is performed.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

When the generator is running 120VAC power is able to energize the shore power connection leading to an increased risk of personal injury.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.

The remedy will be to operate the generator and verify that power is energizing the power center. If it is not, then the shore power wiring and power center wiring will need to be exchanged in the transfer switch.

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels.

Step 2

Disconnect the shore power cord and start the generator, verify that the breakers at the generator are on and not tripped. Check to see if there is power to the microwave and other 120VAC appliances. If there is power, the transfer switch is wired correctly, proceed to warranty reimbursement. If there is no power, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3

If the microwave or any of the 120VAC appliances are not working while the generator is running, test for power at the shore cord receptacle terminals using a volt meter. If there is power at the terminals, turn off the generator.

Step 4

Locate the transfer switch and remove the cover, see Figure 1.  Disconnect the “POWER CORD” and “CONTROL PANEL” wires at the transfer switch and exchange them. Properly torque the lugs for the wires according to the instructions on the transfer switch cover. Figure 1

Step 5

Operate the generator and verify that there is power inside of the unit. Proceed to warranty reimbursement.
