Transfer Switch Electrical Connections May Loosen

The excessive heat can increase the risk of a fire.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V056

Manufacturer E-One Incorporated

Components ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Number of Units Affected 196

Summary

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2005-2010 E-One Typhoon, Cyclone II, X-036, Cyclone III, SPGL, SPBE, FLM2, F550, I440, and I740 emergency vehicles, equipped with an IOTA 50 Amp transfer switch. Electrical connections at the transfer switch may loosen and cause excessive heat.

Remedy

E-One will notify owners, and dealers will replace the IOTA transfer switch with a Powermax switch, free of charge. The recall began on February 19, 2018. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL: 18V-056--

NHTSA Recall LETTER

Mar 02, 2018

Dear E-ONE Chassis Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Why is a recall being conducted?

E-ONE has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of the following emergency vehicles manufactured Jan. 2005 – Dec. 2010, equipped with IOTA brand 50 Amp transfer switches, IOTA manufacturer’s model number ITS-50R:

E-ONE Typhoon, E-ONE Cyclone 2, E-ONE X036, E-ONE Cyclone 3, E-ONE SPGL, E-ONE SPBE, E-ONE FLM2, E-ONE F550, E-ONE I440, E-ONE I740

Affected vehicles are equipped with an IOTA 50 Amp transfer switch, which is used to switch power between on-vehicle generator and shoreline power. Under certain heavy duty cycles, these switches may experience loosening of the lugs on the buss bar.

Under high electrical loads, loose electrical connections at the lugs can cause high heat which could damage the enclosure of the switch, and could lead to a fire.

What are we doing about the problem?

E-ONE recommends replacement of the IOTA switch with a new switch made by POWERMAX. Vehicles subject to this recall are to be inspected and repaired by an E-ONE certified dealer or technician.  E-ONE will compensate the dealer or owner for inspecting and replacing the IOTA transfer switch (IOTA model number ITS-50R), with a POWERMAX transfer switch (E-ONE part

#538550) supplied free of charge if it has not already been replaced during normal maintenance.  Replacement of each transfer switch should take approximately 2 hours.

If you believe you have a valid warranty claim that extends beyond the IOTA brand transfer switch replacement, please contact E-ONE Customer Service at 1-352-861-3612 or write EONE, 1601 SW 37th Ave, Ocala, FL, 34474.

What should you do?

If you receive this notification, please contact your E-ONE Dealer or E-ONE at 1-800-627-5050 to schedule an appointment to have the inspection and replacement of the IOTA brand 50 Amp transfer switch performed.  This Recall is expected to start on or before March 2, 2018.

INCLUDED WITH THIS LETTER IS AN OWNER RESPONSE CARD THAT MUST BE FILLED OUT AND RETURNED TO E-ONE IN ORDER TO BE REIMBURSED. Please have your Truck

VIN available.  After your repair has been completed, please fill in the appropriate information on the enclosed Owner Response Postcard, sign it, and mail it to:

 E-ONE, 1601 SW 37th Ave, Ocala, FL, 34474.

If you prefer to contact E-ONE directly, feel free to contact our Customer Service at 1-352-8613612.  Please have your Truck VIN available.

What if you no longer own this vehicle?

If you are not the current owner of the vehicle, please indicate this on the Owner Response Postcard and return the card to us.

Federal law requires that any lessor who receives a notification of a safety related defect or noncompliance pertaining to any leased motor vehicle shall send the notice to the lessee within 10 days. If you are no longer the owner of this vehicle, please provide us with any contact information so we may contact the new owner.

If you have already paid to have your vehicle repaired for this condition, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges you paid for the repair or replacement of components. If after having attempted to take advantage of this recall you believe you have not been able to have your vehicle remedied without charge and within a reasonable amount of time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, D.C., 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

We apologize for any inconvenience this safety recall may cause, but your safety is our first concern.

Sincerely,

E-ONE, Inc.

Furrion 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch for RV to changeover input between 125/250Volt AC power sources. With Vibrationsmart & Climatesmart Technology- F50-ATS
  • Safe and Automatic Transfer Switch - Furrion’s 50amp Automatic Transfer Switch has a built-in safe switch interlock system and is used to automatically switch between two separate 125 /250 volt AC power sources. These power sources can be from a Generator, shore power cord or inverter
  • Avoid Over-voltage - Provides an added feature of a mechanical interlock between contractors to ensure both contactors cannot be closed in parallel, preventing overvoltage on the output line.Casing Material: UL 94 Fireproof Plastic
  • Time Delay - Once AC power from the Generator is sensed by the transfer switch at Input 2 terminals, it will start a timer and automatically switch over to generator power supply after a 20-30 sec delay which ensures the generator has sufficient time to run up to speed before electrical load is applied.
  • Durable & Reliable: Designed with Furrion's proprietary VibrationSmart and ClimateSmart technologies, this ATS is built to withstand constant vibrations & extreme temperatures. Solid brass terminals are used to increase conductivity and reduce heat and are Nickel plated for corrosion resistance.
  • Highest Safety Standards - The Automatic Transfer Switch comes in a UL94 Flame retarded enclosure and is certified to UL Standards UL1008.
