Summary
Spartan Fire, LLC (Spartan Fire) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Gladiator and 2018-2019 Metro Star fire trucks. The service brake may take longer than expected to engage. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and either replace the fittings and plumbing or the quick release valve as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 5, 2024. Owners may contact Spartan Fire customer service at 1-517-543-6400. Spartan Fire’s number for this recall is 24009.

Reference 18V-720. October 12, 2018 – Spartan Motors filed a non-compliance report. July 31 – November 2018 – Spartan found issue during testing, investigated brake timing issue, created a PSR team, and stop ships issued.
November 12, 2018 – Spartan petitioned 18V-720.
July 31, 2019 – Spartan amended petition for 18V-720.
June 3, 2024 – Spartan became aware of the May 31, 2024 NHTSA published denial of the petition.
June 3 – 11, 2024 – Spartan Engineering and Compliance team reviewed the previous investigation, PSR, population and remedy.
June 12, 2024 – Escalated the issue to REV Group Management.
June 17, 2024 – REV’s senior leadership approved a voluntary recall for this issue.
