Broken Ball Stud May Cause Loss of Control
A broken ball stud can cause a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2025 Kenworth K270, K370, T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, W900, W990, 2025 Peterbilt 220, 536, 537, 548, 567, 579, and 589 trucks. The tie rod or drag link assembly may contain an improperly heat-treated ball stud, causing the ball stud to break.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rod and drag link assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 11, 2024. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 and Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR’s numbers for this recall are 24KWG and 24PBG.

06-03-24: PACCAR North American plants began inspecting for suspect drag links.
06-04-24: Dana notified PACCAR that certain axle assemblies may contain tie rods with suspect ball studs from same supplier.
06-06-24: Safety committee meeting held. Safety related defect determined.
As of 06-06-24, PACCAR received zero warranty claims and zero reports about zero trucks in the field that may be related. Zero reports of deaths or injuries have been received.

Description of Remedy Program : Affected vehicle owners will be notified and dealers will inspect vehicles
for suspect assemblies and replace affected assemblies free of charge. Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed by the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Remedy components will not have a suspect lot code and will have a properly heat treated ball stud.
Trucks held at all North American PACCAR plants for inspection of drag links and tie rods.
