Summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024-2025 MD vehicles. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the vehicle certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”
Remedy
Dealers will remove and replace the label, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 3, 2024. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack’s number for this recall is SC0463.

Description
Certain vehicles equipped with drive axles equipped with tires as specified by the customer have an incorrect weight value for the drive axle. The drive axle rating of the vehicle is lower than identified on the vehicle label. Improper value shown on the label could subject the vehicle to misuse, which could result in a crash.
Vehicles will be recalled and the remedy program will be to remove the existing incorrect label and replace it with a corrected label.

Dealer Responsibilities
- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

- Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal May 15, 2024.
- Owner notification letters will be released on or before July 3, 2024.

April 12, 2024 Mack Manufacturing receives information that there may be a calculation issue related to drive axles where axle load is calculated.
April 19, 2024 Mack Manufacturing identifes that they have vehicles impacted by the calculation issue at the factory and initiates an internal campaign.
May 2, 2024 Product Safety Office is informed of a potential issue in compliance with 49CFR 567 for vehicle and an investigation is opened.
May 8, 2024 Investigation findings are reviewed with Product Compliance Committee and recommendation that this be brought to Product Safety Committee.
May 9, 2024 Product Safety Committee meets and reviews evaluation and determines that a product noncompliance exists and a recall will be performed.
May 13, 2024 DIR 573 Report filed with NHTSA
There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, there have been no warranty claims, field reports or customer complaints associated with this issue.

Description
Certain vehicles equipped with drive axles equipped with tires as specified by the customer have an incorrect
weight value for the drive axle. The drive axle rating of the vehicle is lower than identified on the vehicle label.
Improper value shown on the label could subject the vehicle to misuse, which could result in a crash.
Vehicles will be recalled and the remedy program will be to remove the existing incorrect label and replace it with a
corrected label.
Model and Model Years Affected
Certain 2024-2025 Mack MD vehicles manufactured April 17, 2023 through March 20, 2024.

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require
dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant
safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle
included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before
releasing it to a customer.
Notification Release Schedule
• Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal May 15, 2024.
• Owner notification letters will be released on or before July 3, 2024.

April 12, 2024 Mack Manufacturing receives information that there may be a calculation issue related to drive axles where axle load is calculated.
April 19, 2024 Mack Manufacturing identifes that they have vehicles impacted by the calculation issue at the factory and initiates an internal campaign.
May 2, 2024 Product Safety Office is informed of a potential issue in compliance with 49CFR 567 for vehicle and an investigation is opened.
May 8, 2024 Investigation findings are reviewed with Product Compliance Committee and recommendation that this be brought to Product Safety Committee.
May 9, 2024 Product Safety Committee meets and reviews evaluation and determines that a product noncompliance exists and a recall will be performed.
May 13, 2024 DIR 573 Report filed with NHTSA There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, there have been no warranty claims, field reports or customer complaints associated with this issue. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Vehicles will be recalled and remedy program will be to remove the
existing incorrect label and replace it with a corrected label. Reimbursement for the recall will be covered by Manufacturer’s Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA.
