Incorrect Park Brake Pressure Switch
The park brake light may indicate that the park brake is applied when it is not, possibly resulting in a vehicle roll away and increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024 MD6 and MD7 vehicles. The park brake light may indicate the incorrect brake status due to an incorrect park brake pressure switch.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the brake pressure switch as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 11, 2024. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack’s number for this recall is SC0460.

Description
On certain vehicles when the park brake is applied, the light indicates it is not applied. When the park brake is not applied, the light indicates it is applied. If the park brake indicator is incorrect it increases the risk of an accident.
Vehicles will be recalled and the remedy program will be to inspect functionality of the park brake and replace with the correct park brake switch if necessary.

- Certain 2024 Mack MD6 and MD7 vehicles manufactured November 09, 2023 through November 29, 2023.

- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

RECALL INFORMATION
(March 2024)
Mack Trucks has determined that certain 2024 model year MD6 and MD7 vehicles were built with an improper brake pressure switch which indicates the incorrect park brake status. When the park brake is applied, the light indicates it is not applied. When the park brake is not applied, the light indicates it is applied.
Mack Trucks has not received warranty claims, field reports, or service reports due to this issue.
To ensure that these vehicles meet Mack’s stringent quality requirements, follow the instructions outlined below to inspect functionality of the park brake and replace with the correct park brake switch if necessary.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
Certain Mack MD6 and MD7 model vehicles manufactured between November 9, 2023, and November 29, 2023.

Chronology :
December 11, 2023 Mack Manufacturing informs Product Safety that they have trucks which were built with a incorrect park brake switch due to a supplier error, an investigation is opened. Engineering evaluation is started to identify impact on vehicle functions.
February 19, 2024 Investigation findings are reviewed with Product Safety Evaluation Committee and recommendation that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect.
February 26, 2024 Product Safety Committee meets and reviews evaluation and determines that a product safety defect exists and a recall will be performed.
March 1, 2024 DIR 573 Report filed with NHTSA
There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, there have been no warranty claims, field reports or customer complaints associated with this issue.

RECALL INFORMATION
(March 2024)
Mack Trucks has determined that certain 2024 model year MD6 and MD7 vehicles were built with an improper brake pressure switch which indicates the incorrect park brake status. When the park brake is applied, the light indicates it is not applied. When the park brake is not applied, the light indicates it is applied.
Mack Trucks has not received warranty claims, field reports, or service reports due to this issue.
To ensure that these vehicles meet Mack’s stringent quality requirements, follow the instructions outlined below to inspect functionality of the park brake and replace with the correct park brake switch if necessary.

Repair Instructions
NOTE: Check for park brake switch functionality before proceeding with replacement. An incorrect park brake switch will present the following:
• Cruise control cannot be set.
• Daytime running lights will shut off when park brake is released.
• When the park brake is applied, the light in the dash will indicate that it is not applied.
• When the park brake is not applied, the light in the dash will indicate that it is applied.
If switch does not operate as it should, continue with park brake switch replacement.

1. Park the vehicle on level surface.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Place the gear level in neutral.
4. Install the wheel chocks.

SAFETY RISK:
If the park brake indicator is incorrect it increases the risk of a crash.
There are no precautions you can take other than having your vehicle repaired by
a Mack service center. Vehicles will be recalled and inspected for functionality of
the park brake and replaced with the correct park brake switch if necessary. Recall
repairs will be performed at no cost to you.
The time required to repair your vehicle is approximately 1 hour.
