Summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024 Anthem and Pinnacle vehicles. A software programming error may cause the electronic stability control (ESC) to be inoperative.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 3, 2023. Owners may contact Mack’s customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack’s number for this recall is SC0450.

Mack Trucks, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2024 Mack Anthem and Pinnacle model vehicles manufactured September 06, 2023 through September 11, 2023.
SAFETY DEFECT:
A software problem could cause the electronic stability control (ESC) system not to work.
SAFETY RISK:
An electronic stability control system that doesn’t work could increase the risk of a crash.
PRECAUTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:
There are no precautions you can take other than having your vehicle repaired by a Mack service center. Dealers will reprogram the electronic control unit. Recall repairs will be performed at no cost to you.
TIME REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR:
The time required to repair your vehicle is approximately 0.5 hour.

You should contact the nearest Mack Parts and Service Center and make an appointment. You can locate the closest Mack Parts and Service Center by going online to http://www.macktrucks.com/ and selecting “Dealer & Service Locations” or by calling our toll-free number: 1-800-866-1177.

There have been no field reports, warranty claims or customer complaints associated with this issue.
The remedy will be to program the ABS/ESP ECU with software which restores the functionality of the yaw sensor to the stability control program.

- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

RECALL INFORMATION

Mack Trucks has determined that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2024 Anthem and Pinnacle model vehicles manufactured from September 6th, 2023, through September 11th, 2023.
The electronic stability control may be inoperative due to the lack of yaw sensor input as a result of a software programming error. In the event for stability control intervention, the vehicle may not have the ability to mitigate a loss of stability which may increase the risk of a crash.
Mack Trucks has not received any field reports, warranty claims, or customer complaints associated with this safety issue; therefore, Mack considers this a proactive measure to protect the public and Mack’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect.
To ensure that these vehicles meet Mack’s rigorous quality requirements, follow the instructions outlined below to program the ABS/ESP ECU with software which restores the functionality of the yaw sensor to stability control program.

Repair Instructions
1. Secure Vehicle for Service.
2. Install wheel chocks.
3. Connect to the vehicle using Premium Tech Tool (PTT).
4. Using PTT run Operation 5931-07-03-20 under the Calibrate tab. This operation will program an updated PAR file into ABS module.
Important Note
If you are experiencing issues running operation 5931-07-03-20 reference CBR- 2042 on how to set up Vendor Configuration Programing (VCP).
5. Remove wheel chocks.
6. Release vehicle from service.
Chronology :
September 13, 2023 Volvo Product Safety Office receives a report that there may be an issue with stability control programming within our factories and a formal investigation is opened. PSRI Stability Control Programming 23-068
October 2, 2023 Findings from the investigation are reviewed by the Product Safety Evaluation Committee and the recommendation is that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect.
October 9, 2023 The Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists.
October 14, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA
There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, there have been no warranty claims, field reports or customer complaints associated with this issue.

Date Number Release Page 11.2023 SC0450 01 1(3) Stability Control Programming AN, PI RECALL INFORMATION (November 2023) Mack Trucks has determined that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2024 Anthem and Pinnacle model vehicles manufactured from September 6th, 2023, through September 11th, 2023. The electronic stability control may be inoperative due to the lack of yaw sensor input as a result of a software programming error. In the event for stability control intervention, the vehicle may not have the ability to mitigate a loss of stability which may increase the risk of a crash. Mack Trucks has not received any field reports, warranty claims, or customer complaints associated with this safety issue; therefore, Mack considers this a proactive measure to protect the public and Mack’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect. To ensure that these vehicles meet Mack’s rigorous quality requirements, follow the instructions outlined below to program the ABS/ESP ECU with software which restores the functionality of the yaw sensor to stability control program.
