During this time frame there were two pieces of foam sealant on the extrusion, making it difficult to install consistently. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : The sidewall metal may detach from the vehicle which may lead to property damage or injury. Description of the Cause : Siding may become loose or detach from the vehicle due to the manufacturing plant applying inconsistent pressure to the side wall extrusion. If an installer did not apply the appropriate side pressure to the extrusion, the extrusion may not cover the front edge of the side wall metal. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : An operator may notice the siding loosening prior to complete detachment. OCC provided the manufacturing plant with a copy of the VOQ. On June 27, 2023, OCC received an inquiry from NHTSA regarding the same VOQ. OCC was asked if there had been any other similar failures. OCC opened a research item into the concern. On July 18, 2023, OCC communicated with NHTSA that OCC was still reviewing data. Between dates July 19, 2023, through August 3, 2023, OCC shared initial information with NHTSA, however OCC’s research was incomplete. On August 28, 2023, OCC met with the manufacturing plant to review data. On September 1, 2023, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-612 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Forest River will provide all parts and labor free of charge to Consumers and Dealers. An authorized Forest River dealer will need to perform the remedy. An inspection will be performed to determine if the sidewall metal is showing signs of detachment, if so, the metal will be replaced. What is the Forest River Customer Service Phone Number? Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The concern appears to have been remedied in April 2022 when the manufacturing plant began consistently installing the extrusion which covers the side wall front edge. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Forest River has the utmost urgency in our recalls. Forest River will send suspected VIN numbers to our third party vendor that is licensed to pull data on the current owner of the vehicles (as needed) once a formal NHTSA I.D. is provided. ANY DAMAGE(S) TO THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT MAY NOT BE COVERED. STEP 5: ENSURE TO SECURE THE SIDEWALL METAL SECURELY TO THE VEHICLE; STEP 6: ROUTE/CUT OFF THE METAL USING THE FRONT WALL AS A TEMPLATE; STEP 7: ROUTE/CUT THE SIDEWALL METAL FLUSH WITH THE FRONT WALL PROFILE; WARNING: DO NOT DAMAGE THE FRONT WALL METAL/SKIN.
