Failure of the load-holding feature can result in unintended movement of the platform or load, increasing the risk of injury.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V433
Manufacturer Altec Industries, Inc.
Components EQUIPMENT
Potential Number of Units Affected 3,824
Summary
Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 1999-2022 L Series and LR Series aerial devices. A hydraulic hose may have been installed between the cylinder port and load-holding valve instead of metallic tubing, which can result in a damaged hydraulic hose and failure of the load-holding feature.
Remedy
Altec will inspect the units for a hydraulic hose and replace it with specified metallic tubing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 11, 2023. Owners may contact Altec customer service 1-877-462-5832. Altec’s number for this recall is CSN 3090.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Chronology :
In 2021, Altec identified units in production with hydraulic hoses installed in locations where metallic tubing was specified. A production change was made to improve the manufacturability of the assemblies. In 2022 production continued to report difficulty with the assemblies. On September 8, 2022, a potential field action investigation was opened to determine if improper assemblies had reached the field. The investigation resulted in service instructions being launched on November 8, 2022, to collect data on the units in the field to determine the potential affected population. On May 16, 2023, the data collection work was closed after the required level of information was collected. The collected data was reviewed to determine affected units’ assemblies, unit models, and production dates. On June 9, 2023, Altec determined a defect was present on a specific population of aerials that might not comply with aerial device standards and a field campaign was required. There were no warranty claims or field reports identified. There have been no accidents, injuries or deaths related to this issue.

- MULTI-PURPOSE & ALL SEASON: A premium transmission-hydraulic fluid recommended for the complex lubrication systems of modern tractors, including industrial models. In these systems, the same lubricant may serve the hydraulic system, torque converter, transmission, power take-off, differential, power steering, and wet brakes.
- SPECIFICATIONS: Our tractor hydraulic fluid meets the following manufacturers specifications: (J20C, JD303), (Q-1826), (Improved power fluid 821XL), (ESN-M2C134-D, FNHA-2-C-201), (M1135, M1141, M1143), (Type 55), (JIC-143,144, 145, MS1206,127, 1209, 1210, TCH), (Fluids), (TO-2, MTD), (Bus Automatic Transmission Fluid), (UDT), (B6), (WB 101).
- APPLICATIONS: Included in the above applications, this universal tractor fluid also meets most other manufacturers' specifications for transmission hydraulic fluid. It can be used for makeup or refill in almost all tractor hydrostatic, hydraulic jack oil, transmission oil, differential fluid, and other systems involving common lube oil sumps.
- BENEFITS: This tractor transmission oil gives all-season protection. It flows readily at low temperatures due to its low-temperature viscosity and pour point, and yet retains its body at high temperatures due to a high viscosity index. Other benefits include anti-foam, anti-rust, anti-wear, extreme pressure, seal protection, oxidative and thermal stability, and controlled frictional characteristics.
- PREMIUM LUBRICANTS: Presidential Engineered Lubricants offers premium machine oils, lubricants, and sealants for various industries. Founded in 1877, we're an employee-owned company dedicated to crafting high-quality products at our UO facility, with customer satisfaction as our top priority.
