Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2023 Salem and Wildwood travel trailers. The brakes may be incorrectly wired, which can result in a loss of brake function.
Remedy
Dealers will rewire the brakes, free of charge. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-534-3167. Forest River’s number for this recall is 27-1632.

Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.

STEP 1: LOCATE THE BRAKE WIRING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE (OFF DOOR SIDE) WHERE THE BRAKE WIRING DROPS DOWN TO THE AXLE FROM THE UNDERBELLY;
STEP 2: REMOVE THE GEL-CONNECTORS, ENSURE TO LEAVE ENOUGH WIRE TO RE-INSTALL A NEW GEL FILLED CONNECTOR(S);
STEP 3: ON BOTH OFF DOOR SIDE HUBS THE WIRING SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS (FIGURE 1);

STEP 5: ON BOTH DOOR SIDE HUBS, THE WIRING SHOULD INSTALLED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2;

Chronology :
On April 13, 2023, Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) was contacted by the manufacturing plant and it was indicated that a drive-away driver had returned a vehicle relating to possible lack of brakes.
OCC opened a research item.
On April 14, 2023, OCC met with the manufacturing plant and asked the manufacturing plant to review all vehicles in inventory to see if any other vehicles may have incorrectly wired brakes.
On April 17, 2023, OCC was informed by the manufacturing plant that upon inspection of yard vehicles that revealed incorrect wiring to the brakes by Forest River.
On April 21, 2023, Forest River’s Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall the remaining vehicles. No vehicles are retail sold, therefore there will only be a Dealer Notice, no Owner Letter will be issued.
