Chronology :
At the end of November 2022, BRP confirmed a trend of high warranty rates of mirror falling from the housing.
While most of the mirrors were found in the bottom of the crate at dealership, BRP received reports of mirrors falling while riding representing 9% of the overall claims.
In trying to understand the trend, BRP made various tests and validations. BRP found that there was a high probability that the issue was due to a wrong plastic injection control for the mirror housings by its supplier for a batch molded in April 2022.
As of January 10, in the US, BRP had received 126 reports of dislodged lens at the moment of pre-delivery preparation (May 21, 2022 to January 2, 2023), 8 confirmed reports of lens falling while riding (4 in September 2022, 2 in December 2022 and 2 in January 2023) and 12 reports of lens falling unconfirmed if it was while riding or not (August 2022 to December 2022).
With all the information collected and analyzed, BRP decided on January 27, 2023 had enough information to report and wants to proceed with a safety recall.
No accident was reported worldwide.
Update 4:MY23:Week of April 3:BRP found one lens dislodged from the mirror housing in a box of 96 parts for MY2023. The housing molding date was a batch date that BRP did not want for its production. Inspection of the 96 parts identified inadequate molding dates as required by BRP and agreed by the supplier. Then, BRP inspected of 621 vehicles in its production yard and found 140 vehicles with mirror housing(s) from an inadequate molding date. Vehicles outside the production yard are expected to have a similar rate of mirror housings with an inadequate molding date. The housings from an inadequate molding date could have a similar failure rate seen for MY 22 (12%). However, BRP has no report of failures from the field including of accident, worldwide.
With all the information collected and analyzed, BRP decided on May 3, it had enough information to report and recall.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : BRP is issuing a safety recall.
BRP is targeting to inform dealers about this situation on February 9 and should start the mailing for consumers in the following week. The parts availability dates will be included in the communications.
BRP has the addresses of the vehicle owners in its warranty database and will send them a notice by mail and e-mail, if available.

As of January 10, in the US, BRP had received 126 reports of disloged lens at the moment of pre-delivery preparation (May 21, 2022 to January 2, 2023), 8 confirmed reports of lens falling while riding (4 in September 2022, 2 in December 2022 and 2 in January 2023) and 12 reports of lens falling unconfirmed if it was while riding or not (August 2022 to December 2022).
