VANTRAAX trailer slider suspension and axle assembly Part No. : VANTRAAX.34502 Size : NR Function : Suspension/axle
Descriptive Information : A limited number of Hendrickson VANTRAAX trailer slider suspension and axle assemblies equipped with Haldex ModulT Gen II air disc brakes (which subsequently became subject to NHTSA Recall No. 22E-081 issued by Haldex Brake Products Corporation (“Haldex”)) were installed by Vanguard National Trailer Corp. (“Vanguard”) on certain trailers it manufactured. Haldex manufactured the affected ModulT Gen II air disc brakes between 02/11/21 and 09/14/22.
Production Dates : APR 05, 2022 – APR 13, 2022
Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : Haldex advises:
The brake pad retaining assembly on certain Haldex air disc brakes (ADB) may contain an improperly installed retaining clip. If the retaining clip is improperly installed, the retainer bar may move and fail to retain the brake pads fully within the brake assembly, especially under road vibration conditions. Brake pads do not detach from the brake assembly but a loose brake pad, retainer bar, or retaining clip may come in contact with other nearby wheel components, and the retaining clip or retainer bar may fall into the road.
FMVSS 1 : NR
FMVSS 2 : NR Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22E-102 Page 2 Description of the Safety Risk : Haldex advises:
Under certain road use conditions, an improperly installed retaining clip may enable the retainer bar and retaining clip to detach from the brake and may allow the brake pad to loosen. A loose brake pad may slightly reduce brake effectiveness, and may cut a tire valve resulting in a flat tire, and eventually can cause damage to the brake pad or wheel. A detached retaining clip or retainer bar may come in contact with other vehicle parts and may fall into the roadway, creating road debris and a potential traffic hazard. Hendrickson has not received any field reports of any of such conditions actually occurring with any of the affected ModulT Gen II air disc brakes equipped on the above-referenced population of VANTRAAX assemblies.
Description of the Cause : Haldex advises:
An incomplete manual assembly process resulted in inconsistent installation of the retaining clip and brake pad retainer bar. Identification of Any Warning

Description of Remedy Program : Haldex and its representatives have already assisted with the completion
of inspections and any necessary repairs, per Haldex procedures, of the ADB retaining clips on (i) the population of 12 VANTRAAX assemblies (each equipped with 4 affected Haldex ModulT Gen II air disc brakes) shipped to Hendrickson’s applicable customer, Vanguard National Trailer Corp. (“Vanguard”), and (ii) a total of 92 affected Haldex ModulT Gen II air disc brakes that were identified and quarantined in Hendrickson’s plants before installation on any other VANTRAAX assemblies. All such inspections and any necessary repairs have been completed. Hendrickson has closed this matter on its end. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : A remedied component has the retainer bar fully seated in the notch with the retaining clip fully protruding through the retaining clip window on the retainer bar.
Haldex advises:
It has identified the assembly plant at which the subject ADBs were produced and has implemented corrective actions and mistake-proofing in the assembly process to ensure that future shipments are properly assembled. Corrective action at the Haldex assembly plant was implemented on 09/19/22. On 09/28/22, Hendrickson confirmed the completion of inspections and any necessary repairs, per Haldex procedures, of the ADB retaining clips on all affected Haldex ModulT Gen II air disc brakes that were identified and quarantined in Hendrickson’s plants.
