SYMPTOM:

Customers may experience the following:
● Oil leaking from the timing cover.

CAUSE:

Loose timing cover fasteners

This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 09-013-25 REV. A, date of issue May 30,
2025, which should be removed from your files. All revisions are highlighted with **asterisks** and
include an updated Spare Parts table and Diagnosis section Note.
REPAIR SUMMARY:
Once the claimed fault is confirmed, check the severity of the leak and replace the timing cover sealant, if
necessary, according to the Repair Procedure.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.
CAUTION!
Make sure the leak does not come from the cylinder head, cylinder block, or the top of the crankcase.
Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT> Service Library> Service Info
under: 09 - Engine, 2.0L / Diagnosis and Testing.
NOTE: **To proceed with further repairs, it is important to identify the source of the leak as accurately
as possible.**
Locate the source of the oil leak. If the oil leak appears to be coming from the timing cover proceed to Step 1
of the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT>
Service Library> Service Info under: 09 - Engine, 2.0L / Air Intake System / Body, Air Cleaner / Removal.
2. Remove Serpentine belt. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT> Service
Library> Service Info under: 07 - Cooling / Accessory Drive / Belt, Serpentine / Removal.
3. Using a paint pen or equivalent, mark every fastener corresponding to its current rotational position. Then
turn the fasteners to loosen and return it to their original position for tightening torque. The current torque
must be between 8.6 N∙m (6.343 ft lb) and 11.0 N∙m (8.113 ft. lb).
4. If the residual torque is below the 8.6 N∙m (6.343 ft. lb) limit, proceed as follows:
● Using a digital torque wrench (recommended), loosen the fasteners, tighten to 5 N∙m (3.687 ft. lb) and
apply another 40°. The correct torque must be between 11.0 N∙m (8.113 ft. lb) and 16.0 N∙m (11.801 ft.
lb).
OR
● Using a digital torque wrench (recommended) and apply a torque of 10.0 N∙m (7.376 ft. lb).
NOTE: Refer to the sequence shown in Fig. 1 for tightening the fasteners.

Clean the concerned area and top off the engine oil.
Install the serpentine belt. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT> Service
Library> Service Info under: 07 - Cooling / Accessory Drive / Belt, Serpentine / Installation.
Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT>
Service Library> Service Info under: 09 - Engine, 2.0L / Air Intake System / Body, Air Cleaner / Installation.
Check whether the leak has been solved by idling the vehicle for at least 10 minutes (driving the vehicle for
at least 10 km (6 mi.) is recommended).

9. Is there still oil leaking from the timing cover?
● YES >>> Proceed to Step 10.
● NO >>> This bulletin is complete. Use LOP (09-10-10-98) Timing Cover Fasteners - Tighten.
10. Reseal the timing cover. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT> Service
Library> Service Info under: 09 - Engine, 2.0L / Valve Timing / Cover(s), Engine Timing / Removal and
Installation.
11. Change the engine oil and filter. Refer to the detailed service procedures listed in DealerCONNECT>
Service Library> Service Info under: 09 - Engine, 2.0L / Lubrication / Oil / Standard Procedure.
