Customer states:

+ There is a droning/vibrating noise from the right half of the vehicle (sometimes in the dash panel area, B pillar or
rear).

Workshop findings:

+ The fuel line in the longitudinal member begins to vibrate in certain operating situations; this is the cause of the
noise.

Technical Background

Due to pressure pulsation from the high-pressure pump on engine side the underfloor line in the underbody tunnel
vibrates. This vibration causes noise that can also be heard in the vehicle interior.

Service

1. Try to reproduce the customer complaint (based on the description/cause of the issue), so that it can be clearly
assigned to this TSB. The following repair must only be carried out if all the criteria (model/type, chassis number,
engine/motor and gearbox code, PR number(s), part number, software version, code etc.) apply exactly.
Otherwise, this solution will not eliminate the problem and repeat repairs may be necessary. In such case, we
may reject the warranty claim and charge back the parts.

2. Fill the area around the fuel line with closed-cell foam or use existing workshop materials (e.g., WHT.008.974, not
water-absorbent) This way, the fuel circuit does not need to be removed. If this does not work, use e.g.,
06A141730A (toothed lock washer).

3. For US vehicles: Please use a felt piece 4B0 857 579. Attach it to the fuel tank as shown in the image. (Figure 2).

Modification process: Use a long screwdriver or stick and glue the piece of felt to the tip of the tool.

Remove the white activated charcoal filter line from the holder and stick the felt piece onto the fuel tank under the black
line using your tool.
