Cause:

The windshield frame on the affected vehicles may not have been manufactured in accordance
with specifications and cracks may have developed as a result.
In this case, a crack in the left area above the windshield frame can lead to water leak ingress. Leaks in
the A-pillar can lead to customer complaints and corrosion cannot be ruled out over the service life of the
vehicle.

Action:

Test windshield frame and rework depending on the results.

Testing windshield frame

Procedure:

Information
The following are required for testing the windshield frame:
•

Plastic card

•

Spray bottle

•

Water/detergent emulsion

•

Compressed air gun or vacuum cleaner with reverse function

Information
General information on carrying out the leak test
•

Use a water/dishwashing liquid emulsion for carrying out the leak test.

•

The following fluid mixture makes an ideal water emulsion: 6 drops of commercially available dishwashing liquid mixed in 1 litre of tap water.

•

Fill water emulsion into a suitable spray bottle.

•

It can take up to 2 minutes to detect a possible leak indicated by air bubbles, depending on the
vehicle.

•

The leak test involves blowing in compressed air. To do this, the compressed air must be set to max.
8 bar at the pressure reducer for the compressed air supply.

•

A second person is needed in order to carry out the leak test.

•

Do not use a high-pressure cleaner.

Observe general specifications for bodywork (see PCSS Vehicle Information, Workshop Manuals 5X
Documents).

Only drill the ends of the cracks. A full bore hole in the windshield frame makes repairs much more
difficult.

•

Paint windshield frame according to specifications in the “Paintwork Manual”, Surface painting,
Painting stage 3 (see PCC Vehicle Information).  Handbuch Lack

Porsche dealers that hand over the vehicle to an external service provider to carry out the work
involved in painting the windshield frames must carry out the preparatory work independently at the
Porsche dealer.
