2-dimensional and
3-dimensional positioning

GPS calculates position based on a three-point system.
Distance from the first satellite is first calculated, and then current position is calculated using information received from three satellites.
Even if signals are received from 3 GPS satellites, only latitude and
longitude can be measured, giving 2-dimensional positioning. This results in lower accuracy.
When information can be obtained from 4 satellites, latitude, longitude,
and height measurements can be obtained for 3-dimensional positioning. This is more accurate than 2D positioning, and results in a
decreased occurrence of vehicle positioning errors.
