Eliminating Transmission Symptoms - Yellow Warning Message "Transmission Fault"
Appears in the Instrument Cluster: Observe Specified Procedure (SY 86/20)

Subject:

Automatic transmission

Symptom:

The yellow warning message "Transmission fault - Driving permitted" appears in the instrument cluster in
the vehicle and the following entries are stored in the fault memory of the DME control unit:
P078000 Shift monitoring (009DE5)
P1C9800 Servo motor (clutches) – blocked (009D8F)

Cause:

Claw clutch catching radially.

Remedial
Action:

Check fault status "P078000 Shift monitoring (009DE5)".
Accelerate the vehicle and briefly press and release the accelerator pedal several times.

Work Procedure: 1

Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester.

Establish operational readiness.

Start diagnostics.

Select 'Engine electronics (DME)' control unit.
Information
The adaptation values for the transmission must not be reset.

Check fault status.
5.1

Select the 'Fault memory' tab: The fault status "P078000 Shift monitoring (009DE5)" must
be passive.

5.2

Select the RANGE drive mode and engage transmission range D: If the fault status is now
active, the claw clutch is catching.

Driving the vehicle
Work Procedure: 1

Select the transmission shift programme.
1.1

Select the 'Actual values/input signals' tab.

Select the actual value 'G030_Transmission position, actual position from sensor
values' in the 'G_Transmission' group.

Drive together with another person.
2.1

Accelerate the vehicle from stationary to max. 50 km/h (30 mph) and briefly press and
release the accelerator pedal several times.

2.2

At the same time, check the PIWIS Tester to see if the vehicle has shifted to second gear. If
it has, the claw clutch is no longer catching. If not, repeat the procedure.

If the claw clutch is still catching after the third attempt, contact your importer's Technical Support.

End operational readiness.

Disconnect the PIWIS Tester from the vehicle.
