GROANING NOISE FROM SUNROOF
MODEL
G12 (7 Series)

SITUATION
A groaning noise is present from the area between the front and rear sunroof glass panels, only with the
sunroof completely closed. Venting the front sunroof glass causes the noise to stop.

CAUSE
The front sunroof glass is rubbing against the rubber seal of the rear sunroof glass.

CORRECTION
Inspect, clean, and lubricate the seals. Replace only if necessary after performing the procedure.

PROCEDURE
1. Put the front sunroof glass into the venting position.
2. Inspect the front seal on the rear sunroof glass panel for any signs of damage or debris. If needed, the
seal can be cleaned with water only. Do not use any type of cleaner or conditioner that is not outlined in
this bulletin.
3. Ensure that the sunroof glass panel is correctly adjusted, following repair instructions REP 54 13 001
“Adjusting front glass slide/tilt sunroof panel”. Correctly adjust the sunroof panel if necessary.
4. With the sunroof in the vented position, apply Krytox Lubricant PN 83 19 9 408 523 to the rubber sunroof
seal mounted on the rear sunroof glass panel as shown in the photo below using a suitable applicator,
such as a sponge.

5. Retest the vehicle.
Is the noise still present?
Yes: Continue to step 6.
No: No further correction is required.

6. Replace the seal mounted to the front of the rear glass panel by positioning the front glass panel in the
venting position to gain access to the seal mounted to the rear sunroof panel.
To remove, pull the seal away from the rear sunroof panel.
To install, press the new seal into the sunroof glass panel. A roller can be used to assist in pressing the
seal completely into the channel along the length of the sunroof panel.
