Summary
CRACKING NOISE FROM ROOF OVER ROUGH ROAD SURFACES . A cracking noise can be heard from the roof area while driving over rough roads. The noise can only be heard when the top is fully closed. Interference between the convertible top hinge and adjustment stop screw.

I15 (i8 Roadster)
SITUATION
A cracking noise can be heard from the roof area while driving over rough roads. The noise can only be heard
when the top is fully closed.
CAUSE
Interference between the convertible top hinge and adjustment stop screw.
CORRECTION
Inspect and insulate the convertible top hinge if interference is found.
PROCEDURE
For conditions similar to those described:
1. Completely open the convertible top to gain access to the
main convertible top hinges (circled) on both sides of the
vehicle.
2. Inspect both hinges for signs of interference between the
adjustment stop screws and convertible top hinges.
Interference can be noted by a small area of missing coating
on the hinge (circled).
Are signs of interference present?
Yes: Continue to step 3.
No: Continue diagnosis- this bulletin does not apply.
3. Using R2 cleaner PN 83 19 0 417 324, clean the surfaces of
both hinges in the area of missing coating and allow the
hinges to dry.

4. Apply a strip of sliding tape PN 83 19 9 407 798 over the
area of the missing coating. Apply strips to both hinges,
• Press firmly on entire tape surface
Note: Strips should be cut in 15 mm lengths.
5. Ensure the noise is no longer present after repairs.
