Self-Diagnosis
User Mode
The ECU notifies the rider of troubles in DFI system, ignition system, KLCM system, Power mode system, KEBC
system, S-KTRC system and KQS system, by lighting or
blinking the yellow engine warning indicator light (LED) [A],
yellow warning indicator light (LED) [B], KLCM indicator
[C], power mode indicator [D], KEBC mode indicator [E],
S-KTRC mode indicator [F], KQS indicator [G] and IMU indicator [H] when DFI, ignition, KLCM, power mode, KEBC,
S-KTRC and KQS system parts or IMU are faulty, and initiates fail-safe function. In case of serious troubles, ECU
stops the injection and ignition operation.
The ECU notifies the rider of troubles in ESD system by
lighting or blinking the yellow warning indicator light (LED)
[A] and ESD indicator [B] when ESD system parts are faulty,
and initiates fail-safe function.
For models equipped with ABS, the ABS hydraulic unit
notifies the rider of troubles in this system by lighting or
blinking the yellow warning indicator light (LED), yellow ABS
indicator light (LED) [C] and KIBS indicator [D] when ABS
parts are faulty, and initiates fail-safe function.
For models equipped with immobilizer system, the ECU
notifies the rider of troubles in this system by lighting or
blinking the red warning indicator light (LED) [E] and immobilizer indicator [F] when immobilizer system parts are
faulty, and initiates fail-safe function.
Dealer Mode
The LCD displays the service code(s) [A] to show the
problem(s) which the above system has at the moment of
diagnosis.

the ignition switch on and start the engine.
•○Turn
When a problem occurs with DFI system and ignition system, the yellow engine warning indicator light (LED) [A]
stays on after starting the engine to alert the rider.
○When a problem occurs with immobilizer system
(equipped models), the red warning indicator light
(LED) [B] and immobilizer warning indicator [C] blink.
○When a problem occurs with the KLCM system, the yellow
warning indicator light (LED) [A] goes on and the KLCM
indicator [B] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with the power mode system,
the yellow warning indicator light (LED) goes on and the
power mode indicator [C] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with KEBC system, the yellow
warning indicator light (LED) goes on and the KEBC mode
indicator [D] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with S-KTRC system, the yellow
warning indicator light (LED) goes on and the S-KTRC
mode indicator [E] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with KQS system, the yellow
warning indicator light (LED) goes on and the KQS indicator [F] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with ESD system, the yellow
warning indicator light (LED) goes on and the ESD indicator [G] blinks.
○When a problem occurs with CAN communication line between the ABS hydraulic unit and the meter unit, the yellow ABS indicator light (LED) goes on and the KIBS indicator [H] blinks.

Service Code Reading
○The service code(s) is displayed on the LCD by the two
or three numbers or letters.
NOTE
○The LCD displays the alphabet of the service code as
shown.
○The service code of the ABS adds “B” at the left side of
the code.
○The service code of the ESD and IMU adds “E” at the
left side of the code.
○For DFI system, immobilizer system (equipped models)
and ESD system, when there are two or more problems,
all the service codes can be stored and the display will
begin starting from the lowest number service code in the
numerical order.
○For ABS, the service codes display at random.
○Then after completing all codes, the display is repeated
until the ignition switch is turned off or turn and hold the
lap switch and start/stop switch.
○The order of the system’s appearing is the order of DFI
system, immobilizer system (equipped models), IMU,
ABS, and ESD system.
○For example, if three problems occurred in the order of
46, 11, 31, the service codes are displayed (each two
seconds) from the lowest number in the order listed as
shown.
○Pushing the “SEL” button while displaying the service
codes, the LCD displays the next service code.
Service Code Erasing
service codes stored in memory of the ECU can be erased using Kawasaki
Diagnostic System
• The
(KDS Ver.3).
NOTE
○When erasing the stored service code memory, the accelerator position and throttle position initial
data of the throttle body are erased. Therefore, you must register the initial data to the ECU. Wait
the 10 seconds at the idle speed and the coolant temperature 40°C (104°F) or more to register
the initial data of the sensor position to the ECU.
If the Kawasaki
Diagnostic System (KDS Ver.3) is not available, do the following procedures.
1. Turn on the ignition switch and start the engine.
2. Keep the idling speed more than 30 seconds.
3. Run the vehicle more than 5 minutes at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) or more.
Be sure to keep the engine running during procedures 2 and 3 for more than 10 minutes in total.
4. Turn the ignition switch off.
5. Repeat the above procedures 3 times.
6. Start the engine and check that the yellow engine warning indicator light (LED) goes off.
Service Code Table
○The service codes of the ABS and immobilizer system appear to each system equipped models.
