Stop Sale/Safety Recall: 2015-16 Fit Rear Grab Handle Brackets

Yesterday, October 22, 2015, American Honda notified NHTSA of a Stop Sale and Safety Recall for approximately
25,000 model year 2015 and 2016 Fit LX without moonroof vehicles due to side curtain airbags that may not deploy as
designed. Any new or used units in dealer stock must be repaired per service bulletin, 15-079, Safety Recall: Rear
Grab Handle Brackets, prior to sale. Refer to your eResponsibility report or VIN inquiry to determine which units in your
inventory are affected. American Honda Motor Co. expects to begin initial customer notification in December 2015.
Note: Affected vehicles should not be sold until the repair has been completed. Should an unrepaired vehicle result in
any claim because of the required recall repair, the dealership will be solely responsible to the claimant, and will be
required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.
Basic Problem
The rear grab handle brackets were not manufactured as designed, potentially causing interference during side curtain
airbag deployment. This interference may cause the side curtain airbag not to deploy as designed, increasing the risk of
injury in the event of a side-impact crash or rollover event.
Parts Information
At this time, American Honda is working with the factory to procure repair kits to support this recall. Dealers will be
updated via iN message once a schedule is established, and again when parts are available for order.
Campaign Information
A placeholder version of service bulletin 15-079, has been posted to the Service Information System as of October 23,
2015. Once parts are available, the bulletin will be revised to include warranty, parts, and repair information related to
the recall campaign.

order.
