VINs have now been loaded for this campaign. Please check any in-stock 2008 and 2009 Accord vehicles for
eligibility.

On October 15, 2015, American Honda notified NHTSA of a Safety Recall for approximately 307,000 model year 2008
and 2009 Accord Sedan vehicles due to SRS control units that may cause inadvertent side curtain or front side airbag
deployment. Any used units in dealer stock must be repaired per service bulletin, 15-078, Safety Recall: 2008-09
Accord SRS Unit, prior to sale. Refer to your eResponsibility report or VIN inquiry to determine which units in your
inventory are affected. American Honda Motor Co. expects to begin initial customer notification in late November 2015.
Note: Affected vehicles should not be sold until the repair has been completed. Should an unrepaired vehicle result in
any claim because of the required recall repair, the dealership will be solely responsible to the claimant, and will be
required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.
Basic Problem
The software in the SRS control unit has a low threshold for deployment. The SRS threshold setting for the side impact
sensor is such that in certain cases it may cause the side curtain, side front, or both airbags to deploy in the event of a
forceful non-vehicular collision or door slam when the ignition is on. All affected vehicles will require update of the SRS
control unit with updated software using a dedicated reflash tool.
Software & Tool Information
At this time, software and tools to reflash affected SRS control units are still in development. American Honda expects to
have sufficient quantity available to begin repairing customer vehicles in the first quarter of 2016.
Campaign Information
A placeholder version of service bulletin 15-078, has been posted to the Service Information System as of October 16,
2015. Once software and update tools are available, the bulletin will be revised to include warranty, software, and
update information related to the recall campaign.

Warranty and repair information is detailed in service bulletin 15-078.
Class Action Details
Note that the 2008 vehicles covered by this recall may also be covered by a warranty extension provided pursuant to a
class action settlement. Should a customer arrive at your dealership with a vehicle that has already experienced an
inadvertent deployment, please follow the instructions outlined in service bulletin 14-023, and instruct the customer to
contact Automobile Customer Service to process any reimbursement requests.
