I brought my vehicle to an authorized dealer for three open safety recalls. Two were performed at no charge. The third, the VANOS adjustment unit screw connection recall, was not performed. The dealer stated in writing on the repair order that the vehicle has a broken valve cover bolt, that the valve cover will not seal properly, and that a new valve cover is recommended to complete the recall. They quoted $1,077.43 for a valve cover as a customer-pay repair and stated the recall could not be completed until that was done. I declined the valve cover. The recall was not performed. The bolt is not broken and the valve cover is not broken. The threads in the cylinder head bolt boss are stripped, and a larger bolt was installed that holds. There is no oil leak. A new valve cover would thread into the same stripped hole in the cylinder head and would not repair the damaged threads. The dealer's proposed repair does not address the condition they described. The manufacturer's dealer bulletin for this recall lists a cylinder head cover profile seal as a recall part and does not list a valve cover in any parts list. The remedy requires removing the cylinder head cover regardless. I left without signing the repair order. The recall remains open. I am reporting that a free safety recall remedy was conditioned on a customer-pay repair. The dealer could have performed the recall, documented the pre-existing thread damage on the repair order, noted that the customer was advised and declined the valve cover, and disclaimed responsibility for any future seepage at the cover. I would have accepted that. Instead they performed neither the recall nor any repair, and left a federal safety recall open.

"The vehicle suffered a sudden, catastrophic high-voltage powertrain failure while operating at highway speeds 300 miles away from home. The failure occurred immediately after the vehicle received the manufacturer's Safety Recall 68C / NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-814 software update. The software flash completely 'bricked' the high-voltage battery
system, induced an immediate vehicle shutdown, and stripped all hybrid
propulsion. This defect created an immediate and severe highway safety hazard, rendering the vehicle entirely inoperable on the spot. My 2014 Ford F-150 previously received Ford's brake master cylinder recall repair under the previous owner in November, 2016. On XXX, at approximately 108,372 miles, we were towing our travel trailer and had just begun a planned vacation. Within approximately five minutes of leaving home, a warning chime sounded and a "Brake Fluid Low" warning appeared on the instrument panel. I immediately exited the roadway and pulled into the nearest gas station to determine the cause. Within moments, the brake pedal traveled completely to the floor, leaving the vehicle with virtually no braking capability and making it unsafe to operate. Because the truck was towing our travel trailer, we had to disconnect the trailer in the gas station parking lot. The truck could not be driven safely and had to be towed to Kent Parsons Ford in [XXX]. My son had to bring his own truck to tow our travel trailer home because our truck was no longer capable of doing so safely. Kent Parsons Ford
inspected the vehicle and documented the following diagnosis on the repair order: "Verified customer's concern. Found master cylinder seal failed and filled booster with DOT fluid." The dealership replaced the brake master cylinder, brake booster, brake fluid, and related components. The failed components may no longer be available for inspection because they were replaced during the repair. I paid $1,793.38 for the repair. The dealership's diagnosis documents the same failure mechanism described in NHTSA Recall 20V-332 (Ford
Safety Recall 20S31), involving failure of the master cylinder seal that allows brake fluid to leak into the brake booster, reducing braking performance. Because this vehicle had already received Ford
's recall remedy in November 2016, I am submitting this complaint to document that an authorized Ford dealership identified the same failure mechanism after the recall repair had already been completed. Summary
The vehicle was taken to the dealership for Recall 304 (NHTSA Campaign 26V400), which was supposed to fix an instrument panel/heads-up display (HUD) communication loop crash. However, the software update merely isolated the crash so that only the HUD goes black and reboots while driving. The underlying signal drop or hardware defect is still actively occurring. The issue may appear to be a loose physical connection or faulty wiring harness, as the HUD loss may be triggered after hitting a bump or uneven road surface, though it remains intermittent. The driver's safety is compromised due to sudden, unpredictable driver distraction. Vital safety information, including vehicle speed, blind-spot monitoring alerts, and forward collision warnings, is instantly lost. The vehicle was returned to the dealership, but technicians stated they "did not find anything on their test drives (<15miles)" because the hardware dropout is intermittent. The vehicle was inspected and worked on by an authorized Hyundai
dealership service center for the initial recall but they failed to diagnose the persistent post-recall failure.
