Certain 2022 – 2025 Model Year RAV4
Incorrect Mass Air Flow Sensor Reading
The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians
performing this recall are required to successfully complete the most current version of the E-Learning
course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have the repair
performed correctly; technicians performing this repair are required to have completed the following
course:
- TIC206B - Electrical Repair 2
It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians that have completed the above course to
perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician skill level, and ability before
assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and vacation
schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to perform this repair at all times.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1.

CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY
a. Compare the vehicles VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match.
b. Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and
that it has not already been completed.

Note: TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not
affected or were previously completed, even by another dealer.

BACKGROUND
Under certain conditions, water contacting the radiator in the subject vehicles can create
steam that can cause an incorrect sensor reading. This can lead to a warning light, a roughrunning engine, or a potential engine stall while idling or operating at low speeds for a
prolonged period of time.

VII.

UPPER RADIATOR AIR GUIDE REPLACEMENT
1. Remove four 10mm bolts from Upper
Radiator Air Guide Plate.
2. Remove Inlet Duct Assembly.

3. Using pry tool, remove 5 push clips from
Upper Radiator Air Guide Plate.

4. Remove three 10mm bolts from Hood Latch
Assembly.

5. Remove connectors from both horns.

6. Remove two 10mm bolts from each side of
Radiator Upper Support.

7. Remove Hood Latch Connector and two
clips securing Hood Release Cable.

8. Set Hood Release Cable aside.

9. Disconnect clip from Side Radiator Guides

10. Remove Hood Latch Connector clip and
harness clips using pick

11. Remove Upper Radiator Support.

12. Turn Upper Radiator Support over to access
Upper Air Guide clips

13. Using a pick, release Upper Air Guide clips.
14. Remove Upper Air Guide and mark it.
15. Install new Upper Air Guide.
16. Reverse steps to reassemble.
Torque Specs:

Confirm satisfactory appearance and cleanliness of the vehicle interior before returning the vehicle to
the customer.
