Purpose
This bulletin describes the procedure to replace the plastic threaded pivot fitting on the rain shower
head with a metal threaded pivot fitting on affected Lineage LVT1 units. The metal fitting addresses a
failure of the plastic threaded pivot fitting as supplied by the shower head manufacturer.
NOTE: Actual color and finish of components may differ from those depicted in this document.

Background
Grand Design RV has received a small number of customer reports related to the rain shower head. Every unit is
tested for leaks at the factory as part of the normal testing process, and any detected leaks are corrected before
shipping. An overtightening condition was identified on earlier units and corrected. Additional reports received
after that correction, together with a recent study, identified a failure of the plastic threaded pivot fitting on the
shower head as received from the shower head manufacturer. The manufacturer has developed a metal threaded
pivot fitting to replace the plastic fitting.

CAUTION

HAND TIGHTEN ONLY. Do not use wrenches when reassembling any part of this
assembly, and do not use a screw gun. The rubber O-ring and washer are designed for
hand-tight assembly. Overtightening any of these parts could result in damage and create
leaks.

Instructions — Remove the Shower Head
Step 1 — Rotate the shower head to expose the four #6 x 1" black flat head screws.

Step 2 — Remove each of the four screws by turning counterclockwise. These screws may be reused if
desired; extra screws are included in case a screw is lost or damaged.
Step 3 — Separate the shower head service panel from the larger soffit service access panel.
Step 4 — Disconnect the shower head from the supply line: support the supply line with one hand and
twist the plastic threaded pivot fitting counterclockwise.
Note: This fitting should only be hand-tight and somewhat easy to turn.

Step 5 — Note the machined black plastic keeper that holds the shower head in place. It may be held
by one or two #8 x 5/8" silver washer head screws. Remove the screw(s) by turning counterclockwise.
Note: Screws may be reused if desired; extra screws are included. It is preferred to use only one mounting
screw to allow for the movement that may be needed during installation.

Instructions — Replace the Pivot Fitting

NOTE

Important! Remove and retain the rubber washer sediment screen from the plastic fitting
BEFORE discarding the plastic fitting. The sediment screen is reused in the metal fitting.

Step 1 — Remove the rubber washer sediment screen from the plastic fitting and set it aside for reuse.
Step 2 — Twist off the plastic boss nut on the back of the shower head: hold the square part of the
shower head and rotate the boss nut counterclockwise.
Step 3 — Note the position of the white plastic split ring on the plastic threaded pivot fitting, then
remove the ring.
Note: The ring is designed to flex open for easy removal. Be careful not to over-flex it, as it could break.

Step 4 — Install the split ring onto the metal threaded pivot fitting in the same orientation it had on the
plastic fitting.
Note: The ring will flex open for easy installation. Be careful not to over-flex it, as it could break.

Step 5 — Position the metal threaded pivot fitting inside the opening on the shower head, seated
against the rubber O-ring.
Step 6 — Reposition and hand-tighten the plastic boss nut until it is snugly in place.

Instructions — Re-install the Shower Head

Step 1 — Insert the rubber washer sediment screen into the metal fitting.

Step 2 — Reposition the shower head through the shower head service panel.
Step 3 — Connect the metal threaded pivot fitting to the supply hose: support the supply line with one
hand and hand-tighten the metal fitting until it is snug.
Step 4 — Re-install the machined plastic keeper around the metal threaded pivot fitting. Hand-tighten
one #8 x 5/8" silver washer head screw with a clockwise motion.
Step 5 — Reposition the shower head service panel and hand-tighten the four #6 x 1" black flat head
screws with a clockwise motion.

Verification
Before returning the unit to service, verify the following:

The rubber washer sediment screen was transferred from the plastic fitting into the metal fitting.
The white plastic split ring is installed on the metal fitting in the correct orientation.
All fittings and screws are hand-tight only — no wrenches or screw gun were used.
The metal threaded pivot fitting is connected to the supply hose and snug.
The plastic keeper is secured with one #8 silver washer head screw.
The shower head service panel is secured with four #6 black flat head screws.
The shower head operates with no leaks at the pivot fitting or supply connection.
