SITUATION
1. Use of aftermarket accessory hang-on cellular phone holders and/or air fresheners can break the
instrument panel air vent slats.
Damage and/or issues caused by outside influences are not covered under the BMW limited warranties.
Originally, the air vent slats were only repairable by replacing the entire front center dash vent assembly;
which in some applications, also included the IHKA control module.

CAUSE
The plastic vent slats were only designed to direct air for the climate control. They cannot support the
additional weight of these aftermarket accessories.
CORRECTION
1. Replace damaged vent slats using the vehicle-specific vent slat repair kit. All vehicles.
2. Replace the chrome end cap. Only for F95, F96, G05, G06/G07 up to 3/23.
PROCEDURE
For detailed information on this repair see attached Video BV640124 Vent Slat Repair Kits
Follow ISTA Repair Instructions 64 22 250 Replace Air Vent, Center (Repair kit).
Each repair kit contains both driver and passenger vents with an alignment/installation tool for the center
vent assembly. Only the outermost row of three vent slats are replaceable with this kit. The inner row of vent
slats are only available with the entire climate control panel.
1. The vent slats can be replaced without removal of
the climate control panel from the Instrument Panel.
The jig that holds the vent slats is color coded for left
(white) and right (black).
Special tool 2 298 505 (shown; aka “bone tool”)
and a pair of thin long-nose pliers are required.

To release the vent slats from the knurled
wheel, insert the bone tool 2 298 505 between
the black plastic end cap on the vent slats and
the chrome knurled wheel and pry gently
outward.
The black plastic end cap has a small button
sticking out that keeps it retained in the knurled
wheel
Then release the front center slat from the rear
slats and slide the three front slats out of the
chromed end cap.
2. To replace the chrome end cap, the climate
control panel must be removed from the
dashboard.
The white plastic locking clip is attached from
the rear of the panel.
Only for F95, F96, G05, G06/G07 up to 3/23.
